Mykala Walker has been named the first General Manager of Women's Basketball at Syracuse University, marking a strategic investment in the program's continued growth and success. Walker brings an extensive background in collegiate athletics operations, NIL fundraising, and strategic partnerships that will be instrumental in elevating the Orange women's basketball program. She begins on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025.
"Mykala will be a welcome addition to our program," Syracuse Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "Her body of work has prepared her for the work ahead. She is an incredible recruiter, detailed scout, organized and first-class representative of everywhere she has been involved. She will come to SU hitting the ground running. With her reputation as a fantastic recruiter, I know she will connect very quickly with potential student athletes, those in the transfer portal and with agents throughout the country. Please help me welcome Mykayla Walker into our Syracuse women's basketball family."
Walker joins Syracuse following three years as an assistant coach at Arizona State University, where she worked under head coach Natasha Adair beginning in April 2022. During her tenure with the Sun Devils, Walker spearheaded NIL fundraising initiatives that targeted outreach and event planning, while managing the recruiting budget with full compliance and financial transparency. Her engagement strategies increased community support by nearly 50%, demonstrating her ability to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders and drive program growth.
"Returning to the ACC with a legendary program like Syracuse is an incredible full-circle moment for me," Walker said. "My holistic background as an ACC student-athlete, a corporate professional and a Division I women's basketball coach has prepared me to continuously assist in construction championship rosters for this powerhouse program. I am grateful to Coach Jack and Athletic Director John Wildhack for the opportunity to join a department that meaningfully invests in women's basketball. I am beyond excited to help elevate the tradition of excellence at Syracuse, on and off the court."
Prior to Arizona State, Walker spent five seasons (2017-22) at the University of Delaware as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, also working alongside Adair. In the 2021-22 season, the Blue Hens captured the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly a decade. As recruiting coordinator, Walker signed two Top 150 recruits for the 2022-23 season and built championship-caliber rosters of 15 players each season.
An advocate for post player development, Walker helped transform Delaware into one of the nation's elite offensive rebounding teams. Under her guidance, the Blue Hens ranked No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game among Division I programs in 2020-21 and No. 2 in offensive rebounding during her tenure. She helped produce two professional players, coached two CAA Players of the Year (2018 and 2022), and developed five First and Second Team All-CAA selections in four seasons. One of her players earned the league's most prestigious honor, the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.
Walker began her coaching career at Georgetown University, serving as graduate assistant coach (2014-16) and assistant director of basketball operations (2016-17). During this period, she assisted with team operations and opponent scouting while pursuing her Master of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management, which she completed in 2021.
A former collegiate athlete herself, Walker played basketball at Wake Forest University from 2009-13, where she was a co-captain and member of the winningest class in program history. She represented the Demon Deacons on the Athletic Director's Council and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and helped create the Black and Golden Globe Awards. Walker graduated from Wake Forest in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a minor in History.
In her new role as General Manager, Walker will serve as a key member of the coaching staff, supporting Coach Jack and the team in managing various aspects of the program including scouting and recruiting, former student-athlete engagement, NIL opportunity development, transfer portal management, and institutional fundraising. She will collaborate closely with administration and the NIL department to maximize revenue-sharing opportunities and enhance the program's financial growth.
Walker's diverse experience also includes positions with the Atlanta Hawks/State Farm Arena, Turner Sports/NBA TV, and All In PR, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry landscape.
