From the Start
- Home sweet home for Syracuse field hockey over the next two weeks as the Orange return to J.S. Coyne for four straight after a four-game road swing over the last two weeks.
- Syracuse has not played at home since getting by Lafayette 2-1 on September 15. The Orange went 2-2 over the four-game road swing, with the two setbacks at top 10 teams.
- 'Cuse returns to a more traditional schedule this weekend, hosting No. 16 Louisville on Friday for an ACC showdown before nonconference action on Sunday against No. 14 Princeton. Game times are slated for 4 p.m. and noon, respectively, with both games on ACC Network Extra.
Shut the Door
- Syracuse picked up  its third-straight shutout on Sunday at No. 9 Duke (the Blue Devils won in the shootout, but it was 0-0 getting to that point and declared a shutout).Â
- Sunday's clean sheet was the fifth shutout in nine games this season. Syracuse has not allowed a goal over the last 206 minutes and 37 seconds.
- It marked the first time since 2022 the Orange secured three straight shutouts. Syracuse opened that campaign with a 5-0 win over Sacred Heart, a 6-0 win over Vermont, and a 5-0 win at Kent State, all played away from home. The current run of three shutouts was also a series of road games: a 4-0 win at Longwood, a 1-0 win at Wake Forest, and a 1-0 setback at No. 9 Duke.
- Sunday's shutout was the first time the Orange kept a top-20 team off the board since a 3-0 win at No. 16 Boston College on Sept. 30, 2022 and the first time Syracuse blanked a top-20 team on the road since a 3-0 win at No. 25 Monmouth on Sept. 11, 2022.
Pert Named ACC DPOTW
- For a second time this season, a Syracuse University field hockey netminder earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors as Louise Pert was selected on October 1.
- The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly honors Tuesday afternoon.
- Pert backed Syracuse to a pair of shutouts on the road for the fourth-straight game the Orange have played away from Central New York.
- The Bray, Ireland native backed Syracuse for 140 minutes over the weekend on the team's second trip to the state of North Carolina in as many weeks, shutting out Wake Forest in a 1-0 win and a 1-0 loss at No. 9 Duke.
- Pert was lights out against the Blue Devils as the game went to a shootout after a 0-0 score through regulation and two overtime periods.
- Across the weekend of ACC play, the first time Syracuse has played back-to-back league games in the same weekend since 1994, Pert made eight saves, including seven at Duke on Sunday, a new career high.
- Pert was a clean eight-for-eight in opponent shots on goal through the weekend with a 0.00 goals against average.
A Unique Opportunity
- Last weekend presented a unique opportunity for the Syracuse Orange: Two conference games in the same weekend.
- Since joining the ACC in 2013, the Orange now played a pair of league opponents in the same weekend during the regular season just once.
- Not only will the Orange do that once this season, but twice when adding a mid-October weekend against Stanford and Cal.
- Prior to this season, the last time Syracuse played two conference games in the same weekend was during the 1994 campaign, winning both BIG EAST games on the road at Villanova (2-0) and at Georgetown (4-0).
- Since 1990, Syracuse has played back-to-back conference games four times, going 6-2 in those contests. The first six, in which the Orange went 5-1, were BIG EAST games involving Syracuse, Villanova, and Georgetown.
