THE GAME
- Game two of a three-day weekend sees the Orange return to the JMA Wireless Dome to take on Holy Cross.
- The game will be carried on ACC Network Extra with Johnny Gadamowtiz (PxP) and John Eads (analyst) on the call.
- Tim Leonard (PxP) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com, The Varsity App and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
THE HOLY CROSS SERIES
- Sunday Funday as the Orange and Crusaders clash for a third time in series history.
- Syracuse owns a 2-0 record against Holy Cross, aided by a 28-5 win over the visitors last season to officially open the Gary Gait era on the men's side.
- The two sides first met on March 20, 2021 as the No. 5 Orange topped Holy Cross 15-6 at the JMA Wireless Dome.
- Twenty-one current members of the Syracuse Orange have squared off against Holy Cross. Graduate student Cole Kirst has the most games played, seeing the Crusaders three times as a member of the Lehigh program, which is in the Patriot League with the Crusaders.
VERSUS THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- Sunday will be the 201st time the Orange meet a team currently aligned with the Patriot League.
- The heavy lifting of the 200 previous matches goes to Colgate (49-12-1) and Army West Point (27-41).
- Loyola University Maryland (19-6) and Navy (9-16-1) are the only other teams Syracuse has faced more than 10 times.
- Last season, the Orange went 1-1 against the Patriot League, topping Holy Cross 28-5, but falling 17-13 against the Black Knights.
- Holy Cross is the only Patriot League team the Orange will face in the regular season.
A WIN AGAINST HOLY CROSS WOULD...
- Start the Orange off with a 3-0 mark for the first time since opening 2020 with a 5-0 record.
- Be the first time under head coach Gary Gait the Orange open the season with a 3-0 record.
- Improve the Orange to 3-0 all-time against Holy Cross and serve as the 118th win against a current member of the Patriot League.
- Be the program's 931st all-time victory, second most for a program behind Johns Hopkins (March 11).
- See Syracuse win three straight games since winning four in a row from Feb. 27, 2021 to March 20 , 2021 while besting No. 3 Virginia (20-10), Vermont (17-13), Stony Brook (17-9) and Holy Cross (15-6).
SMOTHERED AND COVERED
- The Orange have held back-to-back opponents below 10 goals to begin the 2023 season.
- Syracuse allowed just five goals in the opener against Vermont before holding another potent offense in UAlbany to just seven.
- It marks the first time the Orange have held back-to-back opponents to single digits since beating Stony Brook 17-9 and Holy Cross 15-6 in early 2021.
- Syracuse has not held three straight foes below 10 goals since the 2016 campaign when it did so six straight times, going 6-0 in that span.
- That same season, Syracuse opened the year holding Siena, UAlbany and Army West Point to single digits top the season.
