ORANGE START ROAD SWING AT NORTH CAROLINA
• Syracuse travels to Chapel Hill for its first road ACC game of the year against North Carolina.Â
• The game will air on ESPN, with Dave Pasch '94 (PxP), Dusty Dvoracek (analyst) and Tom Luginbill (reporter) on the call. It marks the third time this season and second-straight week that a 'Cuse alum has been part of the broadcast team.
• The Orange play their next three games on the road, the first three-game stretch of true road games since the 1996 season for SU. After hosting Clemson on Sept. 30, it will be more than a month before Syracuse returns to the JMA Wireless Dome to host Boston College on Nov. 3.
SERIES HISTORY
• Saturday's game will be the seventh all-time meeting between Syracuse and North Carolina and the first since 2020.
• The series is tied, 3-3, with both teams having a winning record on the other's home field.
• Two of the past three meetings have been decided in overtime. The Orange came away with a victory in both contests.
• Since Syracuse joined the ACC, the teams have split the two meetings.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
• Syracuse is about to embark on a 34-day stretch without a game played in the JMA Dome.
• The stretch is the third-longest in college football this season, with Coastal Carolina (37 days between home games) having the longest, followed by Arkansas (35). The Razorbacks' stretch includes a neutral site game.
• The last time Syracuse did not have a home game in the month of October was in 2008, when two byes and two road games accounted for the stretch. The Orange's last 30+ day stretch without a home game that included three road contests was in 1996.Â
• When the Orange do return home, it'll be a Nov. 3 Friday night affair with Boston College. The team will then play a neutral site game vs. Pitt (Nov. 11) and a game at Georgia Tech (Nov. 18) before the next Saturday home game on Nov. 25 vs. Wake Forest. The 56 days between Saturday home games trails New Mexico State's 63 day stretch without a Saturday home game.
SHRADER RUSHING TO RECORD BOOKS
• QB Garrett Shrader scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season in the win against Army. That total ties him for the team lead with RB LeQuint Allen Jr. and ranks tied for 14th in the nation.Â
• Shrader now has 29 rushing touchdowns at Syracuse, which tie for fourth on the school leader list. The only 'Cuse quarterback to score more rushing touchdowns was Eric Dungey (35). Shrader's 29 rushing touchdowns also tie for eighth on the ACC record list for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
UNDER PRESSURE
• Syracuse's defense ranks ninth in the nation and leads the ACC in tackles for loss, averaging 8.2 per game. The Orange recorded a season-high 13 TFLs against Clemson, which ranks tied for eighth for an FBS team this season.
• 'Cuse is averaging 3.2 sacks per game, which ranks tied for 18th nationally and tied for second in the ACC.Â
• Syracuse also ranks ninth nationally and first in the ACC in turnovers gained with 11. Â
• The Orange's five fumble recoveries are good for first in the ACC and seventh in the nation.Â
• LB Marlowe Wax has forced three fumbles , which leads the league, while DL Terry Lockett's two fumble recoveries lead the ACC and rank second nationally.
TRENDING UP
• Syracuse has finished in the top 20 in total defense in each of the past two seasons.
• After five games, 'Cuse ranks third in the ACC and 19th in the nation, allowing 297.2 yards per game.
• Since the start of the 2021 season, the Orange have held their opponents to less than 400 yards 23 times. Only Clemson (26) has done it more times among ACC teams, while NC State has also accomplished the feat 23 times.Â
• Last season, Syracuse allowed 328.6 yards per game, which was its lowest total since the 2010 season (301.5 ypg.).
A WIN WOULD …Â
• Improve Dino Babers' record to 41-50 as head coach of the Orange.
• Improve Syracuse's road record to 2-0 this season.
• Give the Orange their first win against a ranked opponent this season.
• Give Syracuse its 753rd all-time victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). The Orange currently rank 21st on the FBS ledger of winningest programs. Syracuse is one of 33 FBS schools to have accumulated 700+ wins.
