TODAY'S GAMEÂ
- Syracuse looks to extend its winning-streak to five and move to 3-0 in the ACC as it travels to South Bend, Indiana in search of its first win against Notre Dame since March 29, 2014.
-Â The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and ACC Network Extra with Chris Cotter and Matt Ward on the call. Brian Higgins and Kyle Fetterly will call the game on TK99/105 and Cuse.TV, with WAER also broadcasting the action.
THE NOTRE DAME SERIESÂ
- The Orange and the Fighting Irish square off for the 13th time in a series dating back to 2001.
-Â Syracuse holds a 8-4 advantage over Notre Dame all-time, having won eight of the first nine matchups between the two sides. However, Notre Dame has won three straight matchups against Syracuse.
-Â Since joining the ACC, the Orange is 1-3 against the Fighting Irish.
-Â In last year's 17-7 loss at the Carrier Dome, Notre Dame never trailed, taking a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and extending it throughout the remainder of the game. Jordan Evans led the Orange with three goals.
-Â Evan Molloy played the final 11:14 of last year's matchup, making five saves and allowing three goals. As a result of his strong showing, Molloy would go on to start every game for the rest of the season, accumulating a 7-2 record and helping the Orange win the ACC Championship.
GAME 3 IN THE ACC
- The Orange sits atop the ACC standings, having started conference play with wins over Virginia and Duke.
-Â Since joining the ACC for the 2014 season, the Orange is 8-7 overall against conference foes in regular season matchups and 13-8 overall, including ACC Tournament play. -Â In each of the last two seasons, the Orange has finished 2-2 in regular season conference play before going on to win the ACC Tournament title.
-Â Ranked No. 3 in the Nike/USILA Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the Maverik Media Poll, Syracuse is the second-highest ACC team in either poll, trailing Notre Dame (No. 1) in both.
CARDIAC 'CUSEÂ
- Syracuse enters Saturday's game having played six-straight one goal games, the longest streak in the 101- year history of the program.
-Â 'Cuse has recorded four-straight one-goal games in 2017, 2013, 2008, 2002 and 1919. Prior to this season, the last-three times Syracuse has recorded four-or-more one goal games, they played for a National Championship in that season. In total, the program record for one-goal games happened in 2013, when the team tallied 10. A seventh one-goal decision this season would sit alone in second all-time at SU.
ORANGE LEAD THE NATION IN ONE-GOAL GAMESÂ
- Syracuse leads the country with six one-goal games and sports a 5-1 record in such contests. The only other team with that many games decided by one goal is Virginia, who is 3-3 in such matchups, including a loss to the Orange. u As of March 26, 66 Division I games have been decided by one goal, Syracuse (5-1), Bucknell (3-1), Notre Dame (2-1) and Johns Hopkins (2-1) are the only teams with marks above .500 that have played at least three such contests
A WIN AGAINST NOTRE DAME WOULD …
… Be the program's 889th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
… Improve SU's record to 43-14 since the start of the 2014 season.
… Give John Desko his 230th career coaching win, sixth among active Division I coaches.
… Extend Syracuse's current winning streak to five straight.
ALL-TIME VS. No. 1's
- Saturday's game against Notre Dame is the 25th time in program history Syracuse has faced the No. 1 team in the USILA Coaches' Poll since the start of the 1973 season when the poll began.
-Â Syracuse is 11-13 all-time in those matchups, having lost its last two.
-Â 12 of those 25 matchups have come in NCAA Tournament games, with Saturday's game being just the sixth true road game vs. a No. 1 team. Syracuse is 2-3 away from home in those contests.
-Â The Orange have faced Notre Dame once prior when the Fighting Irish was the nation's top-ranked team in the USILA Poll, with Syracuse winning 11-8 on April 30, 2011 at the Carrier Dome.
4 DIFFERENT GAME-WINNERS
-Â In the Orange's five one-goal victories, four different players have game-winning goals: Brendan Bomberry (St. John's, Johns Hopkins), Nick Mariano (Albany), Sergio Salcido (Virginia), and Jamie Trimboli (Duke).
-Â Salcido also assisted Bomberry's game-winner against Johns Hopkins and Trimboli's overtime goal against Duke.
-Â In the Orange's seven one-goal victories in 2013, five different players had game-winners.
'CUSE IN THE CLUTCH
-Â Of all the players who've made big plays for the Orange late this season, Sergio Salcido, Nick Mariano and Brendan Bomberry are coming up the biggest late.
-Â Salcido leads the way with eight fourth quarter or OT points on the year, seven of which have come with 7 minutes or less to play on the clock. 34 percent of Salcido's points have come in the final 12 minutes of play.
-Â Brendan Bomberry (5-2) and Nick Mariano (4-2) each have the second and third most tallies late, good for 35 and 23 percent of each's season point total, respectively.
- Freshman Jamie Trimboli is scoring the highest percentage of his points in the fourth quarter of anyone on the roster. Three of his five career points have come in the fourth quarter or OT.
DESKO CLOSING IN ON 500 SU WINSÂ
-Â A win on Saturday would be head coach John Desko's 494th win as a member of the Syracuse lacrosse program, including his time as a player and assistant coach.
-Â In four years as a player, Desko played in 35 wins. He won 229 games in 19 years as an assistant coach under Roy Simmons Jr. and currently has 229 wins in his 19th year as head coach.
-Â Desko has the third-most wins as an Orange head coach, behind Roy Simmons Jr. (290) and Roy Simmons Sr. (253).
