LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse returned to its winning ways as the Orange defeated No. 12 Connecticut, 1-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Alex Halis scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 24th minute. Alex Bono made five saves, including the 100th of his career, to earn the shutout and his 17th career victory.
The No. 12-ranked Huskies represented the highest-ranked team the Orange defeated in the regular season since a 3-2 triuph against No. 8 Rutgers on Oct. 17, 2001. It was also the Orange's first win against the Huskies since 2003.
BONO CLIMING CAREER LISTS
Only a sophomore, Bono is already making his way up Syracuse's record lists for career wins and shutouts. Bono has 13 career shutouts, which ranks seventh in team history. His 17 wins are tied for seventh with Steve Pollnow (1988-91). Bono's career record stands at 17-8-1.
SERIES HISTORY
The Blue Devils triumphed in the only previous matchup between the two schools. Duke shut out the Orange, 3-0, in the MetLife Soccer Classic on Sept. 7, 1991.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Duke has a 2-1-2 record this season, including a 0-1-1 mark in ACC competition. The Blue Devilsown wins against Northeastern and Georgia Southern, earned draws against Rutgers and Virginia Tech, and lost to No. 13 Maryland.
Sean David and Zach Mathers lead Duke with five points (two goals, one assist) apiece. Brody Huitema, Jimmy Doll and Seo-in Kim have also contributed assists. Blue Devil goalie Alex Long has started every game. He has 22 saves along with a 0.92 goals-against average.
Head coach John Kerr is in his sixth season at the helm in Durham after spending nine seasons as the head coach at Harvard. Under Kerr, the Blue Devils have advanced to four NCAA Tournaments and reached the round of 16 in 2009. Kerr has also mentored seven NSCAA All-Americans and the 2011 national player of the year Andrew Wenger.
