
Orange Loses at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The SU men's soccer team (8-3-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) outshot its opponent for the 10th time this season, but the Orange was unable to answer a Cincinnati (5-4-2, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) goal in the 54th minute and the Bearcats handed SU a 1-0 loss Saturday, Sept. 29 at Gettler Stadium.
"At this level, in BIG EAST Conference games, there is a fine line between winning and losing," SU head coach Ian McIntyre said. "Tonight was a very even contest and it just swung Cincinnati's way."
The match was tightly contested throughout with both squads seeing chances in the first half. However, neither side found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bearcats eventually broke through early in the second period when Matt Bahner scored from outside the 18 for the match's only goal.
Overall, the Orange outshot the Bearcats 15-12 in the contest and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
SU freshman goalie Alex Bono made three saves. Cincinnati keeper Taylor Hafling also had three saves to earn the shutout.
Syracuse returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when it hosts Rutgers at the SU Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.Match Notes: The defeat marks the first time in 11 outings this season the Orange was shut out ... The all-time series between Syracuse and Cincinnati is tied at 4-4 ... The home team has won every match.
