SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team (8-3-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) returns home for the first of two conference matches this week when it hosts Rutgers (5-3-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the SU Soccer Stadium. Syracuse is seeking its ninth victory of the season, which would be its most since the 1999 campaign when it went 11-9.

For those unable to attend, live video of Wednesday's match is available on Orange All Access.
OFFENSIVE DOMINANCE
Syracuse is second in the BIG EAST in points (67), first in goals (24) and second in goals per game (2.18). The team is tied for second in assists (19) and ranks third in assists per game (1.73). In the most recent NCAA statistics update, the Orange is seventh nationally in goals scored.
Â
SU's 24 goals through 11 games are four more than it scored in 16 matches last season.
Junior Tony Asante leads the team in points (13) and goals (5). Asante is one of four Orange players this season with at least three goals (Jordan Vale 4, Lars Muller 3, Ted Cribley 3).
Â
DEFENSE DOING THE JOB TOO
Syracuse has shut out eight of its first 11 opponents and has allowed just six goals this season. SU's eight shutouts are its most since 2008 when it also recorded eight clean sheets.
Â
The Orange leads the BIG EAST in shutouts and ranks second nationally in shutout percentage (.730). Goalie Alex Bono is tied for the league lead with six solo shutouts.
Â
SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights have won four of their last five to improve to 5-3-0 on year, including a 1-1-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Their only loss in that stretch was to No. 9 Georgetown.Â
Â
Mael Corboz, Kene Eze and Mitchell Taintor have combined for 14 of the team's 18 points and all six of its goals. Each player has two goals apiece. Corboz is the squad leader with six points (two goals, two assists), while Eze was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 1 after scoring game-winning goals in consecutive matches versus Central Connecticut State and Louisville.
Kevin McMullen has started all seven matches in goal. He has 31 saves, three shutouts, and a 0.85 goals-against average.
Â
Dan Donigan is in his third season as the head coach of Rutgers. Prior to his stint in New Jersey, Donigan was the head coach for nine seasons at Saint Louis University. He holds an overall coaching record of 137-63-28.
Â
THE RUTGERS SERIES
Wednesday's match marks the 19th meeting between Syracuse and Rutgers. The two schools have played at least once every year since 1995. The Scarlet Knights lead the overall series, 10-7-1, and have won six of the last seven pairings, including a 2-1 victory last season at Yurcak Field.
