LAS VEGAS – Freshman Stefanos Stamoulacatos scored in the 20th minute and the SU men's soccer team (6-1-0) was dominant defensively in a 1-0 victory versus UNLV on Friday, Sept. 14 at the UNLV Nike Invitational at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The win extended SU's winning streak to four matches, its longest since 2005.

"It was an excellent result on the road against a good, athletic team that posed a good challenge in a tough environment," said SU head coach Ian McIntyre. "We defended very well and showed a resilience at the end of the game to grind out a result."

A closely contested affair, the match remained scoreless until Stamoulacatos dribbled down the left side and launched a well-placed shot inside the right post and past Rebel goalkeeper Joe Vitale.

Stamoulacatos' tally was all the Orange needed as SU's defense limited the Rebels to seven shots in the match (two on goal).

Rookie goalkeeper Alex Bono recorded his fifth shutout of the season, making two saves en route to his sixth victory of the year.

SU outshot its opponent for the seventh time this season, registering an 11-7 advantage against the Rebels. The Orange also held a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.

Syracuse concludes play at the UNLV Nike Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 16 when it faces Cal State Fullerton. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. (EST).

Match Notes: The victory was the program's first in the Pacific time zone after losing two games at the Fila Classic in Fullerton, Calif. in 1999 … Stamoulacatos' goal was the second of his career … Syracuse's six shutouts this year are its most since the 2008 season (8).
