SU Hosts Louisville on Senior Day Saturday

The Syracuse football team hosts No. 11/10 Louisville (9-0, 4-0 BIG EAST) in its regular-season home finale at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Nov. 10 (12 p.m.; ABC). The Orange's (4-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) eighteen seniors (15 student-athletes and three managers) will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies that begin at 11:40 a.m. In addition to Senior Day, the game is the centerpiece of Syracuse University's Orange Central Weekend (Homecoming).

To help pay tribute to servicemen and women for every group ticket purchased for Saturday's game, Syracuse Athletics will donate an equal amount of tickets to local military units as part of its "Salute a Solider" campaign. Since the campaign has been so successful, all military personnel is invited to present their military identification at the Carrier Dome ticket booths located at Gates A, B, C and E to receive two complimentary tickets for the game.

Saturday is also Dome Donations Day. The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area is partnering with SU and CXtec/TERACAI to support local families and victims of Hurricane Sandy with food and money drives. Fans in attendance can bring non-perishable food items or donate cash contributions to put in Red Kettles and Food Barrels that will be set up around the Carrier Dome, on the SU Quad, and at The Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel.

In addition, former walk-on football player Tim Byrne will be recognized during the game. Byrne, who was killed tragically during the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, is the posthumous recipient of the 2012 Zunic Award, presented by the Syracuse Football Club. Syracuse vs. Louisville
Louisville is tied with Rutgers atop the BIG EAST standing at 4-0. Overall, the Cardinals are 9-0 and off to the best start in program history. Louisville is No. 9 in the BCS and are one of the six remaining unbeatens in major college football. The Orange had its two-game winning streak stopped, 35-24, at Cincinnati on Nov. 3rd.

Louisville leads the all-time series, 6-5, including a 3-2 record in games played at the Carrier Dome. In the most recent meeting between the two, Louisville defeated SU on its home turf, 27-10, in 2011.

Saluting the Seniors
The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday. The class features four seniors who have etched their names on multiple Syracuse record lists, including quarterback Ryan Nassib, receivers Marcus Sales and Alec Lemon and strong safety Shamarko Thomas, in addition to offensive tackle Lou Alexander, linebacker Dom Anene, offensive guard Zack Chibane, tight end Carl Cutler, linebacker Siriki Diabate, defensive tackle Deon Goggins, free safety James Jarrett, kicker Ryan Lichtenstein, defensive end Brandon Sharpe, tight end David Stevens and linebacker Dan Vaughan. Senior managers Josh Evans, Darius Rose and Aaron Rudy will also be honored.

Breaking Down the Numbers : Offense Analysis
• 711: The number of plays the SU offense has run so far this season

Nassib among National Leaders
Quarterback Ryan Nassib ranks in the top 15 nationally in the following categories: completions per game (25.1, 12th), passing yards (2,773, 11th), passing yards per game (308.1, 11th) and total offense (318.3 ypg, 11th).

He is the Orange career leader, and ranks second all-time in the BIG EAST in completions (723). He is also second in school history and fifth all-time in the BIG EAST in touchdown passes (62). Against Cincinnati on Nov.3, Nassib raised his season total to 2,773 passing yards eclipsing his own school record set last season (2,685). Overall, Nassib owns three of the top six season passing yardage totals in the Orange anals.

Sales Pitch
Orange receiver Marcus Sales is a candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nation's top receiver. He has been Ryan Nassib's favorite target so far this year. Sales has 50 catches for 772 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games. His 50 receptions and seven TDs ranks eighth and tied for ninth, respectively, on SU's season record lists for those categories.

Backfield Duo Produces
Running backs Jerome Smith and Prince-Tyson Gulley have combined to average 123.* yards per game rushing this season. Smith has 731 yards on 146 carries (5.0 yards per rush). He also has three straight 100-yard rushing games, including a career-best 133 yards against UConn on Oct. 19. He followed it up with 127 yards at USF and 116 at Cincinnati. Smith also scored his first rushing touchdown of the season in the Cincinnati loss. Gulley had 383 yards and three TDs on 89 carries on (4.3 yards per rush).

Orange Swarm
The Orange defense boosts 17 players with at least 10 tackles so far this season. Safety Shamarko Thomas leads the way with 66 stops, including a career-best 14 against Cincinnati on Nov. 3. IN addition to Thomas, linebacker Sikiri Diabate (58) and linebacker Dyshawn Davis (50) have at least 50 stops.
