The Syracuse football team closes out the non-conference portion of its 2012 schedule against Missouri (5-5, 2-5 SEC) at Faurot Field today (Nov. 17 at 7 pm. ET; ESPNU). The pairing marks the third time overall, and first time since 1987, that the Orange (5-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) and Tigers will meet on the gridiron.
Syracuse has won three of its last four games, including a 45-26 victory against previously unbeaten Louisville on Nov. 10. The Tigers are 2-1 in their last three outings. Missouri edged Tennessee, 51-48 in a four-overtime thriller last week.
Syracuse vs. Missouri
SU has won the only two previous meetings in the series, including a 24-13 win at Faurot Field on its w ay to an unbeaten (11-0-1) season in 1987. In the 1986 pairing at the Carrier Dome, the Orange outscored the Tigers, 21-0, in the third quarter to turn a 17-9 game into an eventual 41-9 rout.

SU in the Hunt for BCS Bowl
The Orange is one of four teams still alive for the BIG EAST title and league's automatic bid to the Bowl Championship series. Rutgers, Louisville and Cincinnati are the other three teams in contention. Currently, 4-2 in the conference, SU could finish with a 5-2 BIG EAST record with a win at Temple in its regular-season finale. If the Orange finishes in a two-way tie with Louisville at the top of the standing, Syracuse would earn the BCS berth.
Lemon, Nassib Honored
Senior WR Alec Lemon and senior QB Ryan Nassib were recognized by the BIG EAST this week for their performances against Louisville. Lemon was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Nassib was named to the honor roll.
Lemon caught nine passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. It was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of 2012, and his third straight game with at least one touchdown. Nassib became the BIG EAST career completions leader, going 15-for-23 for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He's the first SU quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards in a season and set the SU single-season record for total offense in the process.
Syracuse vs. the SEC
For head coach Doug Marrone, this Saturday's game against Missouri will be his first versus an SEC foe. Overall, Syracuse is 11-10-1 all-time against current SEC teams.

SU on Pace for Best Statistical Season in School History
SU's 2012 offense, headed by coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, is putting up numbers at a record pace. Should it continue, several team offensive standards would be tied or broken. The numbers would also rank among best in BIG EAST history, The Orange has already established the team season record for passing yardage (3,019).
Run Game Comes Alive
The Orange ground attack is averaging 167.9 per game, on pace for the most rushing yards per game since 2004 (178.8). SU has rushed for at least 200 yards three times in 2012 and has had more than 100 yards in 9-of 10 games. Against Louisville on Nov. 10, Syracuse rushed for a season-high 278 yards on 52 attempts.
Turning the Tables on Turnovers
Syracuse started the season 2-4 and had 15 turnovers in those six games (2.5 per game). In its last four games, SU has just two turnovers and the team is 3-1 in those contests. Both miscues were in a 35-24 loss at Cincinnati on Nov. 3. Against Connecticut, USF, and Louisville, the Orange did not commit a turnover and was victorious. QB Ryan Nassib has gone more than four games without an interception. His last pick was in the fourth quarter at Rutgers on Oct. 13, a stretch of 133 attempts without a pick.
