Orange Hosts DePaul on Senior Night

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team (11-4-0, 4-2-0 BIG EAST) seeks to record its most wins in a season since 1988 when it battles DePaul (3-9-3, 0-5-1 BIG EAST) on Senior Night Saturday, Oct. 20. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Saturday's game is the second game of a Syracuse soccer doubleheader. The Orange women host St. John's at 4:30 p.m. Live video for both matches is available on Orange All Access.
SENIOR NIGHT SET FOR SATURDAY
Prior to the Orange's game against DePaul, Syracuse will honor eight players in a brief on-field ceremony.
Mawuena Agbossoumonde, Evans Asiamah, Nick Bibbs, Mark Brode, Louis Clark, Ted Cribley, Lars Muller and Ryan Tessler will all be recognized for their contributions to the program.
ORANGE ON PACE FOR BEST TURNAROUND IN SCHOOL HISTORY
After going 3-12-1 in 2011, Syracuse is 11-4-0 this season, good for a win-loss improvement of +8.
The team's previous best win-loss improvement was achieved in 1982 (+5.5). The Orange was 10-7-1 in 1981 and improved to 17-3-2 the following year.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
The Blue Demons have a 3-9-3 record this seaso and picked up their first point in BIG EAST competition Wednesday with a 3-3 draw versus Cincinnati.
Antonio Aguilar heads the offensive attack for DePaul. He has 10 points (five goals). Michael Kozielek and David Selvaggi each have two assists to pace the Blue Demons in that department. Eric Sorby has started all 14 matches in goal this season. He has one shutout and a 1.79 goals-against average.
Craig Blazer is in his 12th season as head coach at DePaul. Blazer has led the Blue Demons to six consecutive appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament.
THE DEPAUL SERIES
Saturday's match marks the eighth meeting between Syracuse and DePaul.
The Blue Demons have a 4-2-1 lead in the overall series, including a 2-1 victory last season. Both Orange victories in the series have come at the SU Soccer Stadium.
RECAPPING THE VILLANOVA GAME
Senior Lars Muller scored in the 68th minute and freshman Jordan Vale added his team-leading seventh goal in the final minutes as the Orange defeated Villanova for the first time since 2006. Rookie goalkeeper Alex Bono tied his career best with five saves on his way to his eighth shutout of the season.
