Home Opener
The Orange beat the Black Bears last Saturday in what started out as a nail bitter. Syracuse trailed Maine 14-7 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but staged a comeback scoring 31 unanswered points to claim victory. The win was the first home opener win for the Orange since September 18, 2004 when they defeated Cincinnati 19-7. Syracuse's 28 points was the second-highest in the Marrone era (41 vs. Maine, 2009).
Nassib Sets Single-Game Record
Junior quarterback Ryan Nassib set a new Syracuse record in touchdown passes during one game by throwing five against Maine. Nassib connected with four different receivers in the end zone including two times with sophomore Alec Lemon. By the end of the game, Nassib completed 19-of-28 passes, recording a career high 260 yards. In his first year as starting quarterback, he ranks 29th nationally in pass efficiency (148.27), 32nd in total passing yards (691) 37th in passing yards per game (230.33) and is tied for 34th in total offense (253.0).
Syracuse-Colgate Series
The Syracuse-Colgate series marks the second-oldest in Orange football history, dating back to 1891. This will be the 66th meeting in the Orange-Raider matchup, with the last game resulting in an Orange victory, 52-6, back in 1987. That year the Orange finished the season ranked fourth in the nation after a regular season record of 11-0 and a tie against Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. Syracuse has won 14 straight games in the series, including all three played in the Dome. The last Colgate win was 19-14 in 1950.
Legends Day
This weekend 16 years ago, the Orange shocked #1 Nebraska, beating the Huskers 17-9 in the Carrier Dome. Current Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone and assistant athletic director for player development Bob Brotzki were the Orange's starting offensive tackles. Members of the 1984 team will return to the Dome this weekend to reflect on the victory as part of 2010 Legends Day.
Other members of the 1984 team who will be in attendance include quarterback Todd Norley, wide receivers Scott Schwedes and Mike Siano, running back Jaime Covington, and linebacker Derek Ward.
