
Storm Clouds: Orange Visits St. John's For Regular-Season Finale

QUEENS, N.Y. - No. 2 Syracuse (12-1, 5-0) concludes its regular-season on Saturday, May 8 with a 1 p.m. matchup against St. John's (5-8, 2-3) at DaSilva Memorial Field. The Orange can clinch the regular-season conference championship outright with a victory against the Red Storm.
The contest marks the third men's lacrosse meeting between the two schools and the first since 1991. The Orange has won its last 10 games, including six road victories since losing at Virginia on March 7.

ORANGE CAN WRAP UP FIRST LEAGUE TITLE
Syracuse enters Saturday's game with an unbeaten 5-0 league record. The Orange is the only team in the BIG EAST without a loss and can secure the conference regular-season title outright with a victory against the Red Storm. Should the Orange lose, Syracuse and the winner of the Villanova-Georgetown game will be crowned co-champions.

Syracuse's 12-6 win at Notre Dame on May 1 was the team's 10th consecutive victory since losing at Virginia on March 7. Here's a breakdown of the winning streak by the numbers:

ORANGE NO. 1 IN SCORING DEFENSE
The Orange is the national leader in scoring defense. Syracuse is giving up an average of 7.31 goals per game. The Orange has only allowed double-digit goals twice this season and has held three of its last five opponents to five goals or less.
GALLOWAY TIED FOR 10TH IN CAREER SAVES AT SU
Junior goalie John Galloway made eight saves on May 1 at Notre Dame to etch his name on Syracuse's career saves list. Galloway has 431 career saves, which is tied with Alan Brown (1967-69) for 10th on SU's career list. Brown recorded 431 stops in three seasons (freshmen were not allowed to play varsity athletics at that time). Next up the Orange's all-time saves ledger is Alex Rosier, who had 466 saves in 1994-95.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM
After a 5-5 start, the Red Storm has lost its last three, including an 8-6 defeat at Sacred Heart on May 1. Head coach Jason Miller is in his fourth season. Miller owns an overall record of 17-36. He took over the St. John's program in 2007 after spending time as an assistant coach at Massachusetts, Army and RIT.
Senior captain Tom Manes leads the Red Storm in points (25) and assists (13). He is the only Red Storm player with more than 10 assists and he's one of two with more than 20 points. St. John's other 20-point scorer is sophomore attackman Harry Kutner. Kutner leads the club with 18 goals and is second with 24 points.
Freshman Jordan Rothman is the Red Storm's top faceoff specialist. He's taken all but three draws for St. John's this season. Rothman is 139-for-277 (.502) at the X and leads the Red Storm with 46 ground balls.
Defensively, St. John's is giving up an average of 10.54 goals per contest. Close defenders Mike Sherry and Dan Cremins have been ground ball machines. Sherry has 42 ground balls and Cremins has 41. Freshman Jeff Lowman and senior Gavin Buckley have shared time in the cage. Lowman has 96 saves and a 9.94 goals-against average in nine appearances. Buckley has 57 saves and an 11.17 goals-against average in 10 games. Lowman has started the last four contests.
THE SYRACUSE-ST. JOHN'S SERIES
The Orange has won the previous two meetings with the Red Storm by the combined score of 50-14. Syracuse walloped St. John's, 26-9, on its way to the 1990 NCAA Championship and an undefeated season. The following year, the Orange came away with a 24-5 road victory.
