
Orange Volleyball Loses Two Matches On Final Day Of Kentucky Conference Challenge

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Syracuse volleyball team (7-4) lost its final two matches of the Kentucky Conference Challenge to Virginia and Wright State on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Cavaliers defeated SU in four games (30-19, 26-30, 30-21, 30-20), and the Raiders beat the Orange in three (30-26, 30-24, 30-28).
Junior Morgan Jones was SU's top offensive threat in both matches, recording 16 kills on 39 attempts for a .308 hitting percentage against Virginia, and posting 15 kills on 29 attempts and a .345 hitting percentage versus Wright State. For her efforts on the weekend, she was named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore Katie Allen had a team-high five blocks against the Cavaliers, and freshman Erin McQuillin notched six blocks against the Raiders. Sophomore Kathryn Dercher posted a team-high 24 assists versus Virginia and 13 against Wright State. Sophomore Aila Dommestrup had 20 assists and five blocks against the Raiders.
Senior co-captain Christen Casey led the back-row defense with 24 digs in the match against Virginia, and 15 against Wright State. Sophomore Kelly Duan had 19 digs against the Cavaliers and 11 against the Warriors.
In the first match, Whitney Ashcraft set the Virginia school record with 42 digs as the Cavaliers got off to their best start in program history (10-0). Virginia's Kristin Chaney recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Paige Davis had 22 kills on 44 attempts and a .432 hitting percentage. Emily Kirkwood notched 36 assists, three service aces and nine digs. Lindsay Osco had nine kills and 19 digs.
In the afternoon tilt, Wright State's Tricia Naseman posted a double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs, as did McKenzie Tiffin with 13 kills and 15 digs. Alison Sipiorski had 15 kills on 27 attempts and a .370 hitting percentage, and Eboni Kidd recorded 9 kills on 17 attempts with one error for a .471 hitting percentage.
The Orangewomen participate in their final early-season tournament next weekend when they travel to New Hampshire for the UNH Tournament. SU takes on Florida International on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, Syracuse faces the host Wildcats at 12:00 p.m., and Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m.
