As the director of strength and conditioning for Olympic sports, Veronica (Dyer) Tearney serves as the department nutritionist and is responsible for working with Syracuse's spirit teams. She joined the Orange staff in August of 2006.
Before her full-time appointment at Syracuse, Tearney served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northwest Missouri State University. She earned her bachelor’s exercise science from Syracuse in May 2000. She served as a graduate assistant in the Syracuse strength and conditioning department for three years from 2000-03. Tearney is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
Tearney was a track and field athlete as an undergraduate at Syracuse from 1995-2000. She was named the Outstanding Freshman/Newcomer for the 1995-96 season and was honored with the Lucille Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year award in 2000. Tearney placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at the Canadian Olympic Trials in 2000. She was also a member of the Canadian National Team at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China.
