Sean McCarthy came to Syracuse in January 2026 as Assistant Athletic Director for Revenue Share and Roster Management. He came to the Orange from Seton Hall University where he served as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance since December 2021. At Seton Hall, McCarthy was responsible for the oversight of the compliance office. Additionally, he helped coordinate the implementation of the revenue sharing and contract management process. Â

Prior to Seton Hall, he worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Eastern Michigan University after first joining the department in 2017 as the Assistant Director of Compliance. There, McCarthy oversaw the athletics compliance office and was responsible for implementing the department's Name, Image, Likeness policy beginning in July 2021.
Prior to joining Eastern Michigan, McCarthy spent 2016-17 at Virginia Commonwealth University as their compliance coordinator. Before his stint in Richmond, Va., McCarthy interned in the compliance office at Northern Illinois University and the University of Nebraska.
A native of Aurora, Neb., McCarthy earned his undergraduate degree in political science in 2012 from Iowa State University before picking up his Juris Doctor from the Marquette University Law School in 2016. While at Marquette, he was the recipient of the National Sports Law Institute’s Sports Law Certificate and served as an editorial board member on the Marquette Sports Law Review. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Wisconsin.
