A member of the Syracuse University Athletic Department since 2011, David Gunn was named Assistant Athletics Director/Digital & Brand Strategy in Sept. 2023. His responsibilities include overseeing the Digital Strategy and Creative Services units as well as managing the content and branding across the all the Orange's digital platforms, including social media and Cuse.com.
Gunn oversees the Athletic Department's overall digital strategy and works closely with multiple units within the department as well as the rest University to ensure the proper execution of those strategies. He also coordinates with Syracuse Sports Properties (Learfield College) all of Syracuse Athletics' sponsored digital content.
The previous roles he served in with the Orange were Manager of Digital Strategy and Engagement (2019-23), Digital Media Managing Editor (2014-19) and Assistant Director of Athletic Communications (2011-14).
Gunn joined the Syracuse staff after working in the athletics department at the University of Massachusetts for five years. As the athletic media relations associate director, Gunn served as the primary media contact for six varsity sports teams, including men’s basketball, field hockey, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, softball, and women’s tennis. He also served as the secondary media contact for the football team.
Prior to his promotion to associate director, he was responsible for coordination of multimedia and video content for the University of Massachusetts Athletics’ website, in addition to serving as media relations contact for women's basketball, field hockey, men's and women's swimming and diving, softball and tennis. Gunn also served as the media coordinator for various conference championship tournaments including the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Division I Softball Amherst Regional, the 2010 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship and the 2010 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship. In 2007, Gunn was the official scorer at both the 2007 Hockey East Championship in Boston and the 2007 NCAA Division I Softball Amherst Regional. From 2006 to 2010, he worked with local and national media outlets on student-athlete feature stories and coordinated game-day operations for various athletic teams.Â
Gunn earned a degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland. He and his wife, Lacy, reside in Tully, N.Y. with their three sons.
