Syracuse Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. Wagner
September 14, 2013
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Sean Hickey, Junior, Offensive Tackle
On what the team accomplished in the victory:
“We played a total game. No matter who the opponent is you always want to come out and play a complete game. Even against our FCS opponents in the past, as a unit, played a complete game. Last year, Stony Brook was a fight. The year before Rhode Island was a fight. It was nice to come out today and do what we were supposed to do. “
On what he anticipated about the matchup with Wagner:
“I anticipated us having a good day. I wasn’t anticipating a 54-0 win, but I anticipated a good day and a good win.”
On his thoughts about Wagner after watching their film this week:
“Well, they beat Georgetown and Georgetown is a serious contender in the FCS realm. Then they lost last week in a shoot-out. But, truthfully, I approached this matchup like a normal game. I got nervous before this game just like I get nervous before any game. I did not take them lightly. Looking back to last season’s matchup with Stony Brook, you can see what happens when you take a team lightly. You don’t want that to happen.”
Terrel Hunt, Sophomore, Quarterback
On if he felt he proved a lot of critics wrong with his performance today:
“Critics can say what they want to say. I try to focus on doing the best I can on the field and not worry about proving people wrong.”
On whether or not he expected his first six series to all end in touchdowns:
“Yes, definitely. We believe we can score every time we have the ball.”
On his own evaluation of how he played:
“I am my own biggest critic, so I felt like I made the most of the opportunity today, but there were a few moments where I wish I could have done better. I think as a team things really started to click and we really got going pretty well together.”
Ashton Broyld, Sophomore, H-Back
On Terrel Hunt’s outstanding performance:
“It’s great to see him come in the way he did. No competitor wants to sit down and watch his team. So a pat on the back for him and I’m glad for him.”
Devante McFarlane, Redshirt Freshman, Running Back
On the offensive line creating lanes for him:
“They just did a great job and you know, I give it (the credit) all to them.”
On scoring his first career touchdown:
“It felt great. I didn’t even know what to do after I scored. It was just a great feeling.”
Cameron Lynch, Junior, Linebacker
On how it feels to have the first shutout since 2005:
“It feels good. You know as a defense that you did your job. At the end of the day, it feels very good. The offense did well too. It was a very good team effort.”
On Terrel Hunt’s performance:
“He’s consistent and I’m very happy for him to come back even though he was not starting. I’m happy for him to be ready, and when his number was called he performed well.”
Jerome Smith, Junior, Running back
On how George Morris II and Devante McFarlane played:
“I think we did a really good job at the beginning of the year by giving them carries early in the game. When we got home they were used to being in front of the crowd and taking carries.”
On how the offense played when Terrel Hunt came in the game:
“Everybody started doing their job. He did a great job stepping in, and Drew (Allen) did a great job coming in, scoring a touchdown or two. If everyone else is doing their job then the quarterback will be OK.”
Jarrod West, Junior, Wide Receiver
On how the death of his grandfather affected his play:
“Waking up was pretty tough for me. My grandfather meant a lot to me growing up. Before the game I said a prayer in the end zone and told him I would meet him in the end zone. It was kind of cool to actually score, like I told him.”
On the game plan and his connection with Terrel Hunt:
“I think we had a great game plan going into the game. I figured that if we just ran the plays that coach called, when our number was called, we made a bunch of plays. I’m just trying to get open every play. If I beat the defender, no matter who is at quarterback, I can try to make a great play.”
