Wagner Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Wagner
September 14, 2013
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Walt Hameline, Head Coach
On the game:
“The score speaks for itself, and along with that, the statistics speak for themselves. When you look at them (Syracuse) from an offensive standpoint, they threw the ball on us and came up with a lot of big plays. We started out a little bit slow. We turned the ball over on the 10-yard line, or whatever it may be, on the fumble and that sort of set the tone right away and it didn’t get much better.”
On Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt:
“It was interesting. I really thought they would run more option with him, but they lined up in no-huddle, they threw the ball. He threw the ball real well. We didn’t defend it real well, but at the end of the day, I think he did a real fine job. It’ll be an interesting scenario they have now.”
On the experience his players get from playing in the Dome:
“I think at the end of the day it was a great opportunity for our program. You never want to come in and get landslided like we did, but at the same time it’s something the kids will remember. It helps recruiting I think, with the young kids anyway, and at the same time that’s a good thing. Hopefully you learn from it and you can move on and have a good football season.”
On what Syracuse can take away from today’s game:
“I think going in they played two very good football teams. The Penn State game, they could have won it. Their defense was excellent in that football game and last week they played the 17th-ranked team. They got two darn good quarterbacks and they made some big plays. I think the transition from last week to this week, I’m sure they made improvements. I think they came out here today and the one thing they did do is they played hard from the get-go and sometimes when you’re playing someone that’s a lesser opponent on paper, maybe you have the tendency to slip a little bit, but that didn’t happen to them today. They came out and the coaches had them ready to go.”

Dominique Williams, Senior, Running Back
On the Syracuse quarterbacks:
“I really didn’t pay attention to them. I was trying to make adjustments on the sideline while they were on the field. From what it looked like, they did a good job.”

On if there were any surprises from Syracuse:
“There was nothing that surprised us. They were more physical up front than we were. We shot ourselves in the foot in a lot of places. With a team like that you can’t make mistakes.”
Chris Furner, Senior, Offensive Lineman
On what his younger team mates can learn from:
“Keep playing. It’s never going to be easy. I think we came out a bit lethargic in the beginning with that opening fumble. Our defense came ready to play in the first quarter and then we just let it get away from us. Basically we just keep things going and when adversity hits us we have to stick together and keep playing.”

On deciding to come back for a fifth year:
“To tell you the truth, I didn’t think I was coming back. We had a great run last year, first-ever conference championship in school history, and first-ever win for our conference in the FCS playoffs. I didn’t think I was coming back until about two weeks into spring ball. They asked me to come back and I missed it so much. I was talking with all my friends who graduated and they said ‘Dude, do it. It’s a once in a lifetime (opportunity).’ I saw that Syracuse was on the schedule and I said 'Absolutely, I'm coming back.' I have no regrets whatsoever. Not even during 5:30 a.m. workouts. No regrets. I love this game.”
