Toledo Student-Athlete Quotes
Quarterback Austin Dantin
On how he’s feeling:
“Obviously it’s tough after a loss, but there is a lot we can take from this game. Right now, I’m exhausted. It was a long night. I was basically up all night and had to get a couple of IVs before the game. It’s especially tough after a loss.”
On the team’s confidence down the stretch:
“We were very confident, we were being very successful. We thought we could do it. We had a lot of success on offense. We had a couple of miscues that could have turned field goals into touchdowns. It’s something we have to work on.
On the interception in overtime:
“We were trying to take advantage of something we have been doing with the bubble game. We thought the defender would knife out. He obviously didn’t. I had some pressure in my face so I couldn’t get it out like I wanted to. I was trying to put it outside where he could get it or no one else could. It was tough. I thought I had a play. I was throwing toward Bernard Reedy.”
On playing three good teams to start the season:
“It’s a learning experience. We know what kind of a team we have. We have played a lot of great teams, and Syracuse is a great team. We played with them, we had our opportunities. But at the end, we didn’t do it. Our goal is still intact with the MAC Championship and we start conference play next week against Temple. We are looking forward to that. I can’t wait to get back on the field and start preparing.”
Safety Jermaine Robinson
On team morale after Desmond was injured:
“It looked like a typical run play to the boundary. The running back was going fast and he had a natural reaction and he put his head down and just fell down. These types of plays happen, it’s just part of the game. He is a senior leader, he has been here for six years. It was really upsetting. We know that that is part of the game and he was playing hard. It inspired us. You never want to see a teammate go down like that. We tried to put that aside and we just hoped he was okay. “
On Syracuse’s go-ahead touchdown:
“We made a couple of adjustments. He has been hot routing all week. He just floated it up and the receiver made a play on the ball. Sometimes you’re on the short end of the stick.”
Running Back David Fluelllen
On filling in for the injured Adonis Thomas:
“I had big shoes to fill in coming in for Adonis. But I had to do my best for the team. It’s going to be hard the next couple of games without him. But our team believes in ourselves and our ability to get the job done. Everybody was looking at me to step up. Coming back to New York gave me a little boost.”
On the offensive efficiency and coming up short:
“Syracuse is a good defense. We made a lot of mistakes on offense, which we will fix this upcoming week. We’re just going to keep playing hard and get ready for Temple.”
On the 3rd quarter touchdown reception:
“I was really wide open. I got the call from upstairs and they thought it was going to go for a big play. I stayed focused and tried to make a big play for my team.”
