TEAM NOTES
Syracuse has now won 15 consecutive games against Colgate, including all four played in the Carrier Dome.
The Orange is now 11-4 all-time on September 25.
SU is now 3-1 on the young season. It is the first time since the 2003 season that Syracuse has won three of its first four outings.
Syracuse improved to 6-1 under head coach Doug Marrone when leading at the half.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Redshirt senior cornerback George Mayes joined 2010 team captains Ryan Bartholomew, Derrell Smith and Rob Long for the game today.
Junior running back Antwon Bailey had career long 31-yard reception in the first quarter. He surpassed that with a 37-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to give SU a 14-0 advantage. It was Bailey’s first touchdown of the season as well as his first career touchdown reception. He finished the day with two receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown. Bailey also rushed for 27 yards on seven carriers.
Senior running back Delone Carter finished the day with a career-high 172 yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns. It marked the first time that a Syracuse player has rushed for four touchdowns since Carter accomplished the same feat against Wyoming in 2006. It was Carter’s eighth career 100-plus yard rushing game. He has seven 100-yard rushing games, which is one shy of eighth on SU’s career 100-yard games leader list. He now sits 11th on SU’s career rushing chart with 2,290 yards. His 20 career rushing touchdowns ties for 10th in Syracuse history.
Senior cornerback Mike Holmes recorded SU’s first interception of the young season, picking off a Greg Sullivan pass and returning it a career-long 42yards at the end of the first quarter.
Junior fullback Adam Harris registered his first rush as a member of the Orange. The junior netted four yards on the carry. He finished the day with seven yards on two carries.
Senior cornerback Da’Mon Merkerson had the second interception of the game, picking off a Sullivan pass in the third quarter. It was Merkerson’s first career interception.
Freshman linebacker Marquis Spruill recorded a career- and game-high 12 tackles, including a career-best six solo stops. He paced a group of four players with double-digit tackles.
Junior wide receiver Van Chew reeled in a career-long 48 yard reception during the third quarter. He finished with three catches for 68 yards.
Freshman running back Prince-Tyson Gulley peeled off a career-long 22 yard run during the fourth quarter. He finished with 41 yards on four carriers and his first career touchdown.
Freshman tight end Beckett Wales hauled in his first career reception during the fourth quarter. It went for 19 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Charley Loeb’s 19-yard pass to Wales was a career long for Loeb as well.
Junior defensive end Mikhail Marinovich posted a career-best six tackles.
