Coach Biddle Quotes
On overall game:
“You don’t like losing, but I think overall our team really played hard. That’s the hardest we have played in a while, particularly on offense. I just think we came up short. I wish that we didn’t have replay and we had another touchdown. I thought on offense we really competed hard and moved the ball and were physical. I just thought on defense, on four or five plays, they had better athletes, just speed. Our kids really hung in there, we really played hard and I’m proud of them.”
On the team’s first half:
“I wish we had a touchdown on the board. I think we played well. I think we got worn out a little bit on defense and gave up some big plays.”
On what the game does for the team going forward, and reaction to Nate Eachus’ belief of not facing a team like Syracuse for the rest of the conference:
“They all count as one loss if you lose but the others are actually more important because they are late games. I don’t think the score is indicative of what the game was, but that’s what happens, you kind of get worn out but I think we need to build on it with the positives.”
On the positives from the game:
“I think we controlled the ball for close to 40 minutes. I think we ran the ball. I think our passing game was a lot better. I thought we controlled the line of scrimmage. I think we’re a step or two away from breaking a lot of big plays.”
Student-Athlete Quotes
Nate Eachus, Junior, Tailback
On the differences between Syracuse and Colgate:
“I thought it was a pretty close game in the first half. The penalties killed us. The touchdown that got called back and then they got the ball, that hurt us a lot. Syracuse is a tough team. They are big and strong. With that said, I thought we played pretty well.”
On Colgate having the ball for 45 minutes during the game:
“I think we controlled the ball a lot more than they did. Our game plan every week is to pound the ball, but our defense struggled a little bit and couldn’t really help us out.”
On his individual performance:
“I’m always trying to gain yards for my teammates. I wished we would have put up at least 21 points. We only finished with seven points and I thought the game was a lot closer than what it really was.”
On Syracuse’s defense:
“I think they have good size and they are a little quicker. Their secondary is fast and their D-line, number 99 is a big boy. I still think we were in it in the first half and we let it escape.”
Greg Sullivan, Senior, Quarterback
On biggest differences between Syracuse and Colgate:
“Obviously, they are at the 1A level and their skill is going to be better than ours, but to be honest, I don’t think that was what beat us. Their skilled players weren’t that much better or quicker. We kicked ourselves in the butt a little bit and couldn’t finish. Finishing was what we worked on a lot during the off season and we are trying to learn from it. When we get the ball we have to finish. I can’t throw a pick when we are down 21-0. It’s little things like that that make a big difference.”
On only scoring seven points after holding the ball for such a long time:
“I am proud of today because we had a game plan going in. We looked up at the score and, credit to them, it was 35-0. It was like, what happened? I thought we were doing pretty well and like I said before, it all comes back to finishing. We can’t have penalties and little things like that. We can’t make penalties against Division I BIG EAST teams.”
On being back in the Dome:
“I’d rather be 2-1 than 1-2. It was good to be back in here and we had more people here this time. I think we doubled the attendance and it was good to be back.”
