Maine Postgame Quotes
Syracuse Football
Syracuse vs. Maine
September 18, 2010
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Maine Head Coach Jack Cosgrove
On Maine’s performance in the game:
“I was very disappointed by our performance in the second half. We got our butts kicked. I was virtually embarrassed about how we executed on both sides of the ball. We squandered an opportunity to win the football game.”
On if Maine’s poor performance in the second half correlated to Syracuse’s momentum gain at the end of the first half:
“No. We gave them short fields twice on the turnover and kick return. They got points both times. Syracuse did turn it around at the end of the half, but I don’t think that is an excuse for poor execution. We didn’t cover any guys. We didn’t block anybody. We were a very bad football team in the second half.”

Jared Turcotte, Jr., Running Back
On what wasn’t going right in the second half:
“We just didn’t execute. It’s plain and simple, there’s not too much else to say. We were not on the same page and there’s no excuse for it. We can’t say we didn’t do this or didn’t do that, we just didn’t get it done.”
Warren Smith, Junior, Quarterback
On what Syracuse’s defense did schematically to stop them:
“No, they ran a 4-3 press like we watched in film all week. They made little adjustments when we started rolling out. They started clouding the corners and when I say clouding the corners, I mean they played a flat. They took away our out routes, but other than that they didn’t do anything different. We just didn’t execute and we kind of shot ourselves in the foot with fumbles and penalties. We need to bounce back this week and cut back on penalties and turnovers and execute. We can hang with any team, we really can and it showed. First half we did it, we were with these guys and the second half we didn’t do the little things we always talk about and that’s what happens.”
On losing players on offensive line to injuries:
“We have nine offensive lineman that have had experience in our offense so when one guys goes down it’s a loss, but we don’t look at it as we’re not going to be as good in that position. We have nine capable offensive linemen in that position that can get a good push and pass protect for us and I feel that’s one of our strengths.”
Dominic Cusano, Senior, Defensive Back
On Syracuse completing a lot of passes in the second half:
“We weren’t disciplined on our keys from the defensive linemen to linebackers. We were biting on first moves. Offensively it’s the little things and we need to go back to practice and correct the little things before we can correct the bigger things.”
