Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Albany
Saturday, April 3, 2010
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach John Desko
Opening Statement:
“It was a good win for us. I talked about it earlier in the week. It seemed throughout their last two games, they had some personnel changes and I think they were trying to figure out who they were. They are definitely feeling better about themselves and the entire local flavor coming in the Carrier Dome and wanting to perform well. We knew that we were going to get a hard-fought game out of Albany and we did. I don’t know if it appeared that way. It wasn’t an easy game. We had to work for a lot of the stuff we got. Fortunately, we got off to a very good start and once again rode very well. I think we got a lot of possessions back as a result of our riding situation and we turned some of those into goals. I am happy with the performance for the four quarters and again some players that hadn’t played in earlier games got a chance to play in this game.”
On the whether Albany would make a run:
“In between the periods, it was all we were talking about – what could happen and making sure that we valued our possessions and stayed out of the penalty box and didn’t make mental errors. The possession was more important than another goal. It was 14-7 at one point, they had scored seven goals in three periods and we had that margin going into the fourth period, so it was a matter of just being more patient offensively – running our offense, taking very good shots and staying out of the penalty box. I think we used a number of people, so we stayed fresh as the game went on. By the end of the fourth quarter, we got some players in there who hadn’t had a chance to play and they were going to the goal a little too quickly, so I told them to value their playing time and make the most of their possessions.”
Stephen Keogh, Junior, Attack
On the physicality of the game:
“We want to ride hard and work some turnovers. We don’t try to get too physical and knock them over, but we do want to ride hard in order to gain the possession.”
On his behind-the-back goal:
“I don’t think I really needed to do it, but I wanted to make it a little flashy. I didn’t really look where it went. I was just hoping that it was going to go in.”
On being aware that he was so close to 100 points:
“I didn't know that. I wish I had a few more assists, but it's cool to get a 100 points and hopefully I'll keep going.”
Max Bartig, Senior, Midfield
On the progression of the midfield:
“We work together a lot, both on and off the field so that helps us mesh together as one unit. I think it is starting to show. Today was pretty balanced out there, Josh (Amidon), Jovan (Miller), Jeremy (Thompson) and I did great job out there.”
Josh Amidon, Junior, Midfield
On not letting up against Albany:
“We knew it was important not to let up. At halftime, we looked at some of the things we did wrong and figured out what we needed to do in order to fix them. They pressured us, but we kept right on going and putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Jovan Miller, Junior, Midfield
On passion for this game because of local players on both sides:
“I think because they are coming to the Dome and a lot of them wanted to play here, it does add a little spunk to the game. I think the game gets a little ugly because they are trying so hard. Intensity takes over most of the time.”
