Rutgers won the opening coin toss and elected to receive.
Senior quarterback Perry Patterson’s first-quarter interception was his first in 93 pass attempts. Patterson completed seven passes at Rutgers and ranks fourth on SU’s single-season completions chart with 158.
Patterson attempted 300 passes this season, which ranks second on SU’s season record list.
Junior Jason Tanner returned the first kick of his career in the first quarter for 14 yards.
Senior Arthur Kapalanga made his first reception of the season in the first quarter. The eight-yard grab was the longest of his career.
The Orange defense allowed 14 points in the first quarter against the Scarlet Knights. It represents the most first-quarter points for an SU opponent this season. Rutgers’ 21 points in the first half was the most surrendered by the Orange in an opening half of football this year.
Syracuse was held scoreless in the first half for the first time this year.
Sophomore running back Curtis Brinkley moved into third in kickoff return yards by a sophomore against the Scarlet Knights. He finished the year with 448 kickoff return yards.
Sophomore tight end Tom Ferron caught two passes at Rutgers to move into a tie for second on the Orange’s season receptions by a tight end ledger. He has 30 catches this season, tying Tony Gabriel (1969).
Freshman quarterback Andrew Robinson completed the first pass of his career, catching his own pass for a gain of four yards. Two plays later, Robinson connected Jawad Nesheiwat for a 14-yard touchdown pass. It was Robinson’s first career touchdown and it was a career-long reception for Nesheiwat.
Robinson completed all three of his passes for 20 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 31 yards on five carries.
