SYRACUSE NOTES
Seniors Kader Drame and Quinn Ojinnaka were game captains along with 2005 season captains Steve Franklin and James Wyche.
Junior offensive guard Mike Sklarosky made his first career start. Sophomore Carroll Madison started at left tackle.
Senior running back Damien Rhodes gained 113 all-purpose yards on 23 plays, moving into fifth place on the Syracuse career all-purpose yards record list (3,960) and into third place on the SU career all-purpose plays record list (633). His 112 rushing yards moved him into the ninth spot on the all-time rushing list. He passed Ernie Davis (2,386 career rushing yards) and now has 2,448 career rushing yards.
Junior quarterback Perry Patterson tied his career-long with a 30-yard rush in the first quarter. Patterson finished the game with 11 rushes for 25 yards.
Sophomore defensive tackle Cornelius Campbell Jr. recorded his first career sack, taking down Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn for a loss of six yards.
Senior Steve Gregory recorded his fifth career blocked kick on a 28-yard field goal attempt by D.J. Fitzpatrick in the second quarter. All five of his blocked kicks have been field goal attempts. Gregory is tied for second on the Syracuse career blocked kicks record list with David Tyree (1999-2002).
Junior punter Brendan Carney has 73 punts this year, which ranks second on the Syracuse single-season record list. The SU record is 77 set by Mike Shafer in 2001.
Senior tight end Joe Kowalewski extended his catch streak to 10 consecutive games with a six-yard reception in the fourth quarter. He scored SU’s lone touchdown of the game, an 18-yard catch with 3:18 remaining in the contest. It was Kowalewski’s second touchdown of the season and third of his career.
