Brendan Carney’s 59-yard punt in the first quarter tied his season long (vs. Cincinnati).
With his 237 yards, Walter Reyes passed Larry Csonka for second place on the all-time rushing list. Reyes now as 3,150 yards, second only to Joe Morris (4,299). Reyes is only the second SU runner ever to crack the 3,000-yard mark.
Reyes also passed Csonka, and Bernie Custis for ninth place on the Syracuse career total offense ledger. Reyes has 3,150 career yards.
Reyes moved into seventh-place on the BIG EAST career rushing ledger with 3,150 yards, passing Miami’s Edgerrin James (2,929), Boston College’s William Green (2,974), Miami’s James Jackson (2,996) and Rutgers’ Terrell Willis (3,114). He is the eighth BIG EAST back to rush for more than 3,000 yards. Reyes also moved into a tie for second place on the league’s rushing touchdown list with 42 (West Virginia’s Avon Cobourne). Reyes is also now ninth on the conference’s career scoring list with 262 points.
Reyes has scored at least one touchdown in 15 consecutive home games.
Reyes’ 62-yard gain in the fourth quarter was his longest run of the season.
Reyes gained 237 yards for his second 100-yard game of the season and 12th of his career. It was his second career 200-yard rushing game (241 vs. UCF, 2003). Reyes is now tied for fourth on the SU career list with Ernie Davis and James Mungro. Reyes’ 100-yard day was his first against a BIG EAST opponent since going for 110 yards versus Miami in 2002.
Damien Rhodes’ 44-yard touchdown run was his second 40-plus yard rushing score of the season (46 yards versus Buffalo). He has three touchdowns of more than 40 yards this season, including a 68-yard touchdown catch against Cincinnati.
Rhodes finished the game with a career-high 102 yards and two touchdowns. It was his first career 100-yard game. It marked the first time since the Boston College game in 2000 that Syracuse had two backs run for 100 yards in the same game (James Mungro, Dee Brown).
Safety Anthony Smith made six tackles to move into ninth place on the SU all-time tackles by a defensive back list. Smith now has 175 career tackles, passing Rob Thomson’s (1987-90) total of 173.
Sophomore linebacker Luke Cain made his first career start. Cain had a career-high six tackles in the game.
Senior kicker Collin Barber recorded 11 points on two field goals and five extra points to move into seventh place on the SU all-time scoring list with 204. Barber is the eighth Orange player to score at least 200 career points. Barber has now made 12 of his last 15 kicks in the Carrier Dome.
Chris Thorner’s third-quarter fumble recovery was the first of his career.
Perry Patterson’s 30-yard scramble in the first quarter was the longest run of his career.
James Wyche’s blocked field goal was SU’s first blocked field goal since the Rutgers game last season. It was Syracuse’s fifth blocked kick of the season (3 punts, 1 PAT, 1 field goal).
Syracuse’s 370 yards on the ground was its first 300-plus yard rushing day since gaining 303 versus Toledo last season.
Greg Hanoian’s four-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter was his first career touchdown and touchdown reception.
The Orange’s 90-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter was its longest drive of the season.
Andre Fontenette’s 43-yard reception in the fourth quarter was the longest of his career.
