Saturday, October 18, 2003
Syracuse, N.Y. • Carrier Dome
Johnnie Morant was back on the kick-return unit for the first time since the UCF game. Morant did not return a kick.
Morant's 52-yard touchdown catch extended his streak of games with at least one catch to 23 games. It was his third touchdown catch of the season and first since two receiving scores in the opener at North Carolina. He tied his career-best with two touchdown receptions (North Carolina, 2003).
Sophomore wide receiver Rashard Williams was in the starting lineup for the first time in his career. Williams' 12-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was the first of his career. Williams made his third catch on SU's final drive of the second quarter to convert a third down inside the BC 20-yard line. He set a new career high with his fourth catch in the third quarter, also converting a third down. He finished the game with seven catches. He also set a career high with 71 yards.
R.J. Anderson's completion to Jared Jones on the first play from scrimmage was his 250th career completion. Anderson is the sixth SU quarterback to reach that milestone. He finished the game with 20 completions, moving him past Todd Norley into fifth place on the SU career ledger (269).
Anderson's touchdown pass to Rashard Williams was the 16th of his career, moving him into an eighth-place tie with Todd Philcox on the Orangemen's all-time list. His 52-yard scoring strike to Johnnie Morant moved him into sole possession of eighth place.
Anderson tied a career-high with three touchdown passes (North Carolina, 2003). He also ran for a score, marking the sixth time in his career he had both a passing and rushing touchdown.
Anderson's 73 rushing yards were a career high. His old mark was 64 versus West Virginia in 2000.
Walter Reyes' second carry of the game pushed him past the 2,000-yard mark for his career. Reyes is the 16th Orangemen to rush for at least 2,000 yards in his career, and only the sixth player to accomplish the feat in three seasons. He ranks 15th on the SU career yardage list with 2,050.
Reyes' one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter extended his streak of games with at least one rushing touchdown to a school-record 11 games. Jim Nance rushed for a score in 10 straight games in 1964.
Reyes' touchdown run was the 30th of his career, moving him into sole possession of second place on the SU career ledger. Reyes and Floyd Little (35) are the only two SU backs to have 30-or-more career rushing touchdowns. It also tied him with Dee Brown for fourth on the SU all-time total touchdown ledger.
Reyes now has 12 rushing touchdowns in 2003, tied for fifth on the Orangemen's single-season ledger.
Reyes tied his career high with five receptions in the first half. He also had five catches this season versus Toledo.
Diamond Ferri's first-quarter interception was the first of his career.
True freshman Ricky Krautman attempted his first career extra point following SU's first touchdown. Kratuman also attempted his first career field goal in the first quarter.
True freshman Marcus Clayton had his first career rushing attempt in the first quarter. Clayton ran for 14 yards and a first down.
Freshman Brendan Carney's second-quarter extra point was the first of his career.
Anthony Smith's blocked punt for a touchdown was the Orangemen's first blocked punt for a score since the Rutgers game in 2002 (Damien Rhodes). It was the first time the same player blocked the punt and scored the touchdown since David Tyree did it in 2000 versus Buffalo.
The Syracuse defense recorded five sacks, two more than their season total entering the game.
Syracuse's 39 points were the most versus Boston College since a 45-0 win in 1974.
