Sophomore defensive tackle Brian Hooper made his first career start for the Orangemen. Freshman defensive end Ryan LaCasse also made his first career start.
LaCasse dropped North Carolina quarterback Darian Durant on a third-down play in the first quarter. It was LaCasse's first career sack.
Junior wide receiver Johnnie Morant's 14-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his first career carry. It was the second scoring run by an SU wide receiver in as many weeks after Jamel Riddle took one in at BYU.
Walter Reyes' established a new career-high with 86 yards rushing. His 12 carries was also a career best. Reyes also broke off a career-best 20-yard run in the third quarter. Reyes' one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his second career touchdown and his first since the Pittsburgh game last season.
True freshman safety Anthony Smith made his Syracuse debut in the third quarter.
UNC kicker Dan Orner's 55-yard field goal in the third quarter tied the SU record for longest field goal by an opponent. The record was originally set by Chris Bahr of Penn State in 1975. It is also the longest field goal by an SU opponent in the Carrier Dome.
Damien Rhodes' completion to David Tyree on SU's two-point conversion in the third quarter was SU's first two-point conversion since the Rutgers game last year.
Steve Gregory's 35-yard kickoff return was a career long. Gregory had a 31-yard return at BYU.
Unofficially Clifton Smith recorded 16 tackles. It was the second consecutive game he has recorded double-digit tackles.
The loss snapped SU's seven-game home winning streak. It is SU's first loss in the Carrier Dome since November 18, 2000 to Miami (26-0).
