Syracuse Game Notes
Syracuse, N.Y. - Carrier Dome
Junior receiver Johnnie Morant recorded the longest kickoff return of his career to open the game. Morant returned the ball 40 yards to SU's 47-yard line.
Senior safety Keeon Walker sacked Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey for a loss of 14 yards in the first quarter. It was his second sack of the season (at West Virginia).
Sophomore Walter Reyes finished the season ranked fourth on the single-season rushing yards list with 1,134 yards. It is the highest rushing total since Joe Morris' 1,194 rushing yards in 1981.
Reyes scored a one-yard touchdown with 39 seconds left in the first half, scoring SU's first points against Miami since the 1999 season.
Reyes gained more than 100 yards rushing for the sixth time this season (and sixth time in his career), which ties for third on the SU single-season record list, and ties for 10th on SU's career record list.
Junior Thump Belton had his first career reception, a seven-yard pass from quarterback Troy Nunes, with 6:30 remaining in the half.
Redshirt freshman Steve Gregory blocked a Miami field goal attempt with 2:28 left in the half. It was his third blocked field goal of the season. He blocked one against Temple and another against Central Florida. He tied the SU single-season record for blocked kicks (David Tyree, 2000; Andre Brinson, 2001).
With 41 catches this season, including two today, junior Jamel Riddle tied for ninth place on Syracuse's single-season receptions list. Riddle, who left the game in the first quarter with a shoulder injury, has 57 receptions for 963 yards through three seasons.
