Syracuse fans are encouraged to wear Orange when the 'Cuse (3-0-1) hosts Niagara (1-1-0) on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. The match at the SU Soccer Stadium has been proclaimed an "Orange Out."
The Syracuse-Niagara Series
Niagara has won three of the five meetings with Syracuse and owns a 3-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Orange won the initial meeting, 3-0, on Sept. 19, 1996, during the program's first year of NCAA women's soccer. The most recent matchup came one year ago, with the Purple Eagles claiming a 2-1 victory.
Syracuse Status
The Orange put a four-game unbeaten streak on the line when they go against Niagara. Syracuse has won its last two contests -- a 1-0, last-minute victory at Northwestern on Aug. 20, and a 3-0 shutout of Princeton on Aug. 23.
Fifth-year midfielder Vickie Jones leads the Orange in scoring with three goals, two of which came on penalty kicks. Sophomore midfielder Abby Incorvaia has produced two goals and two assists.
Junior Maya Naimoli, who was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Week, has played all of the first four matches. She owns a 0.25 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
Niagara Status
The Purple Eagles began the season with a 2-0 loss at rival Buffalo and a 2-0 victory at Le Moyne.
Junior forward Caitlyn Gratton has scored both of Niagara's goals. Gratton was named the Metro Conference Player of the Week for her two-goal showing against Le Moyne. Freshman midfielder Naiya Johnston has two assists.
Sophomore Julia Poissant has a 1.00 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage.
Game Promotions
In addition to the Orange Out, the first 50 fans at the SU Soccer Stadium will receive orange pom poms. A contest will be held to determine the fan "Best Dressed In Orange" and there will be Syracuse Trivia at halftime.
