Syracuse starts its 31st season of women's soccer when it hosts Villanova on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
The Syracuse-Villanova Series
Villanova owns a 6-2-1 advantage in the all-time series with Syracuse. The Orange have a 2-1-1 lead in games played in Syracuse. The two programs first met on Oct. 11, 1996, with the Wildcats claiming a 2-0 triumph. Syracuse won the most recent encounter, 1-0 on Sept. 25, 2011.
Syracuse Status
The Orange finished 5-9-4 last season. Syracuse would like to produce a similar start as it had in 2025, when the Orange began with a 4-1-3 record.
Syracuse lost its top three goal scorers from last year and will rely on a new offensive group that includes junior transfer Farrah Stephens-Martin and freshman Lauren Christy.
For the first time since 2021, SU won't have Shea Vanderbosch available in goal. Junior Maya Naimoli, a transfer from Youngstown State, started both 2026 exhibition games and did not yield a goal.
The defensive back line features returning starters Jasmine Nixon, a junior, and sophomore Bree Bridges. The duo led Syracuse in minutes played a year ago.
Syracuse won both of its exhibition games this month, defeating Mercyhurst, 5-0, and Le Moyne, 4-0.
Villanova Status
The Wildcats were 9-8-1 in 2025. Coach Samar Azem is in her fifth season at Villanova.
Sophomore forward Avrie Nelsen had a squad-best five goals last fall. Forward Morgan Kotch, a junior, had three goals and three assists.
Hannah Dickinson, a grad student, is the returning starter in goal. She posted a 0.96 goals-against-average and an .802 save percentage in 2025.
