Perry Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Cornell Perry has earned a spot on the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. The award honors players who lead through community service while excelling in the classroom and on the field.
As college football's premier award for community service, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recognizes student-athletes who use their platforms to serve others and make a positive impact in their communities. Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and former Florida quarterback, the award reflects his lifelong commitment to leadership, service and unity
It's an honor to recognize these student-athletes for the difference they are making in the lives of others," Wuerffel said. "Their commitment to service demonstrates the powerful impact college athletes can have both on and off the field."
Community service is a key program value under head coach Fran Brown, with Perry one of the leaders on the team in the category, having logged over 100 community service hours through the past two seasons.
He has worked with the Salvation Army, YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse Parks & Recreation, the MOST Museum, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Syracuse City School District and Clear Path for Veterans, among others.
In addition to Perry's community service efforts, he serves as a member of the team's Leadership Council, where he helps establish standards, promote accountability and positively influence his teammates.
Perry earned his undergraduate degree in communication and rhetorical studies, completing his degree with over a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. He is pursuing a master's degree in advanced media management in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
On the field, Perry enters his redshirt senior campaign having appeared in 33 games for the Orange with seven starts. Early in his career, many of his contributions came on special teams units, however he developed into a key piece of the 'Cuse secondary, appearing in every game with seven starts at safety last season. He finished the year with 45 tackles, 1.0 TFL and a pass breakup on the year.
Perry is also an AFCA Good Works Team nominee.
