
Orange Drop Match at No. 9 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 9 NC State on Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Orange (6-9, 2-6) found themselves trailing early after the Wolfpack came out swinging in doubles play. Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe, the No. 2 ranked doubles pairing in the nation, showed their quality as they produced a flawless 6-0 victory over Nelly Knezkova and Leena Bennetto. Mia Slama and Lavinia Tanasie secured the doubles point for NC State, winning 6-2 over Constance Levivier and Monika Wojcik at No. 3 doubles.
Osuigwe stayed red hot in singles play, defeating Bennetto 6-1, 6-1. Broadfoot followed suit, knocking off Serafima Shastova 6-4, 6-1 to give the Wolfpack a 3-0 advantage. Slama secured the match following a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Anastasia Sysoeva. Amelie Smejkalova then picked up a fifth point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Emma Scaldalai, while Anna Zyryanova made it six after defeating Knezkova 6-3, 6-1. Wojcik notched a victory in the first set against No. 51-ranked Tanasie, but ultimately lost in the match tiebreak.
Syracuse heads back to Florida next Friday for a clash with No. 32 Miami. The first doubles serve is slated for 4 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
