Maryn Broderick shines in Delaware series
Syracuse University women's ice hockey freshman defenseman Maryn Broderick has been named the AHA Rookie of the Week. Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) announced its weekly awards on Monday morning for games played Oct. 26-31.
The Waterloo, Ontario, native earns her first career AHA weekly award after a standout two game series against Delaware. Broderick scored the opening goal in the Orange's 4-1 win on Friday, Oct. 30, her second goal of the season. She led all skaters in that game with nine shots on goal, a season high.
Broderick also put four shots on goal in Thursday's series opener, giving her 13 shots across the two games. That total shared the AHA lead for the week. She also contributed on defense with four blocked shots and finished the week with a +1 rating.
Broderick's strong week continues a productive start to her rookie season. Her eight points (two goals, six assists) through 10 games lead all Syracuse defensemen and are tied with Penn State's Megan Hosman for the lead among AHA rookie defensemen. She has recorded a point in six of Syracuse's 10 games and carries a +5 rating, with a minus rating in only one game all season.
Penn State's Abby Stonehouse (Forward), Mercyhurst's Sofia Ljung (Defenseman) and Robert Morris' Maggie Hatch (Goaltender) earned the other AHA weekly awards.
The Orange head to St. Charles, Missouri, this weekend to play Lindenwood in a two game series. Friday's game at Lindenwood Ice Arena starts at 5 p.m. ET, and Saturday's game starts at 2 p.m. ET.
