OPENING DRIVE
• The Orange remain on the road this weekend when they face off with UConn on Saturday afternoon.
• Jack Gordon '24 (play-by-play), Taylor McHargue (analyst) and Jaclyn DeAugustino (reporter) will be on the call for the non-conference matchup, set for a noon kickoff airing on CBSSN.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
• Syracuse has seen 89 different players appear in games this season, with 46 of them, more than half, being freshmen or sophomores.
• Of the 46 underclassmen who have appeared, nine have logged starts. RB Shavane Anderson Jr. and P Jimmy Gregg are the lone true freshmen to draw a start while sophomores TE Daunte Bacheyie, WR Darius Johnson, RB Tylik Hill, OL Byron Washington, DB Demetres Samuel Jr., LB Antoine Deslauriers and DL Nissi Ogbebor have appeared in the opening personnel packages.
• Underclassmen have accounted for six of the 11 offensive touchdowns (54.5%), 344 of 492 rushing yards (69.9%) and 205 of 806 receiving yards (25.4%).
• Defensively, underclassmen are accounting for 56 of 195 total tackles (28.7%), led by a combined 41 from Deslauriers, Ogbebor and Samuel Jr.
THE ROAD AHEAD
• The Orange are in the midst of a 35-day stretch away from home. Since last playing at home on Sept. 12, the Orange traveled to Pittsburgh and had its bye week. The trip to Storrs, Connecticut will be followed by a trip to Charlottesville to take on Virginia on October 10 to close out the stretch.
• The stretch is among the longest in the nation away from home this season. Eastern Michigan will have a 38-day span where they do not play in their home venue, but will play a game at Ford Field in Detroit as the designated home team. Stanford is the only Power Four team with a longer stretch away from home, with a 36-day stretch away from home (Oct. 23-Nov. 21).
• The stretch of 35 days away from home is the longest since 2024 when the Orange spent the month of October on the road with a bye during the span. The Orange went 2-1 with wins over UNLV and NC State with the lone loss coming against Pitt. The stretch was also 35-days long.
SERIES HISTORY
• Syracuse and UConn meet for the 15th time in the series on Saturday.
• The Orange have won six straight matchups dating back to 2012. Syracuse is outscoring UConn 38.0-18.8 over that stretch.
• The two squads met annually from 2004 through 2012 when both programs were members of the Big East Conference.
• Fran Brown has topped UConn twice in his tenure as head coach.
NEW LOOK DEFENSE
• The Vince Kehres defense is off to a fast start, allowing just 44 total points and an average of 258.7 yards of total offense through three weeks. The 258.7 yards total defense ranks 18th in the nation and fourth in the ACC.
• The Orange held Pitt QB Mason Heintschel to a career-low 123 yards. The Pitt signal caller also threw his first interception of the 2026 campaign, with Davien Kerr nabbing one.
• Orange opponents average 134.7 yards of passing per game, the sixth-best mark in the nation.
• Syracuse ranks first nationally in defensive improvement from 2025 to 2026, cutting its yards-per-game allowed from 427.7 last season to 258.7 through three games this year, a difference of 169.0 yards -- the biggest difference from 2025 to 2026.
A WIN WOULD …Â
• Extend Syracuse's winning streak against UConn to seven games.
• Give Fran Brown his third win over UConn as a head coach.
• Give the Orange their first road victory of the season.
• Give Syracuse its 758th all-time victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). The Orange currently rank 21st on the FBS ledger of winningest programs. Syracuse is one of 37 FBS schools to have accumulated 700+ wins.
