Syracuse center Uche Izoje has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season, the league announced Monday. The honor follows her career-high 27-point performance in the Orange's overtime road loss at RV/21 North Carolina on Sunday.
Izoje delivered a dominant performance in Syracuse's lone game of the week, recording her ninth double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the 77-71 setback to the Tar Heels. She shot 11-for-24 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line while adding two steals in 41 minutes of action.
The six-time weekly award is the most by any ACC rookie this season proving Izoje to be a strong contender for ACC Rookie of the Year in March. Izoje continues to pace all ACC freshmen in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg) while leading the entire conference in blocks per game (2.9). She also ranks fourth in the ACC in field goal percentage (.555) and fourth in rebounds per game.
Izoje and the Orange (16-4, 6-3 ACC) return to action Thursday when Syracuse hosts Georgia Tech at the JMA Wireless Dome. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
