Graduate student Emma Ward (women's lacrosse) and senior Jack Gorman (men's rowing) are the winners of the 2025 Soladay Award, which recognizes accomplishment in athletics, academics, leadership and community service. The Soladay Award, which goes to one female and one male each year, is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the Department of Athletics.
Â
Ward is a four-year starter for the Orange and two-time All-America honoree. She became Syracuse's all-time leader in assists at the ACC Tournament and is the seventh player in program history to record 300 career points. Ward has helped the Orange to two ACC regular-season titles, three trips to the national semifinals and one appearance in the national championship game.
Â
Off the field, Ward has been active in Syracuse's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as the Atlantic Coast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Group. She also participated in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Multiracial Students Leadership Academy earlier in the school year.
Â
The Babylon, New York native has also been recognized for her work in the classroom. During her career, Ward has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team, IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, ACC Academic Honor Roll and Syracuse's Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Â
Gorman was a member of the Varsity Eight that went undefeated in Cup Races in 2023-24 and finished sixth in the nation at the IRA National Championship. During his 'Cuse career, he has three top-10 finishes at the IRA (2V8 in 2022, 2V8 in 2023 and V8 in 2024).
