Orange Sweep Cornell & Navy to Win 5th Straight Goes Trophy

The Syracuse men's rowing team started off its cup season strong sweeping Cornell and Navy for its fifth-straight Goes Trophy win and sixth-straight Stagg Trophy in Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday morning.Â
The ninth-ranked Orange Varsity 8 retained the Goes Trophy finishing the 2,000-meter course on the Severn River in 6:07.0 ahead of #15 Cornell (6:13.5) and #20 Navy (6:19.2) to start the day off strong for Syracuse.Â
The 2nd Varsity 8 (2V8) won its respective race finishing in 6:11.2 ahead of Cornell (+5.7) and Navy (+12.9) while the Third Varsity 8 (3V8) won in 6:23.4 over Cornell (6:32.5) and Navy (6:48.1).Â
In the final race for Syracuse, the 4th Varsity 8 (4V8) cruised to victory in 6:26.4, 10.1Â seconds head of Cornell and 20 seconds ahead of Navy.Â
The Orange have now won the Stagg Trophy, which is awarded to the team with the most points, in the annual matchup with Cornell and navy for the sixth-straight time. The Orange Varsity 8 has won five-consecutive races against Cornell and Navy, a program best.Â
