
Syracuse Faces Boston College in ACC First Round

DURHAM, N.C. – Eighth-seeded Syracuse begins its Atlantic Coast Conference title run against ninth-seeded Boston College in the ACC First Round May 8 at Duke Softball Stadium in Durham, N.C. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. All games throughout the tournament will broadcast on ACC Network.

The Orange face the Eagles for the first time in postseason history; the two programs never squared off during their time in the Big East. Boston College is the eighth ACC school Syracuse has faced since joining the conference.

Syracuse clinched its postseason berth in shining fashion, earning a 13-5 run-rule victory against No. 14 Florida State May 4. The Orange enter the ACC Championship winning back-to-back series against top-15 programs.

Syracuse is 14-20 all-time against Boston College and are 1-0 in neutral site games. The Eagles took two-of-three in the series this season, sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 2-1 and 3-2. The Orange took the finale with a 10-1 win after scoring all 10 runs in the final four innings of play. Syracuse beat Boston College twice in its inaugural season, 2-1 and 4-2 in 11 innings. Syracuse's longest game in program history occurred against Boston College, a 6-5 victory in 14 innings on April 20, 2002.

ORANGE UPDATE:Â
- Syracuse beat No. 14 Florida State twice, claiming the eight seed in the 2024 ACC Softball Championship. The Orange walked-off the Seminoles, 4-3, in the first game of Friday's doubleheader before a 13-5 five-inning run-rule victory on Saturday.
- Syracuse earned back-to-back top-15 series victories. In an eight-day span, the Orange went from having zero top-15 series wins in program history to two.
- Senior Lindsey Hendrix continued her torrid stretch against some of the best opponents in the country, earning both wins. Hendrix threw all 12 innings in the starts, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven batters.
- The southpaw posted a 1.17 ERA behind a Syracuse offense that plated 17 runs in the two victories.
- Sophomore Madelyn Lopez went 5-for-10 with five runs scored against Florida State, including 2-for-3 with three runs scored in Saturday's win.
- Lopez and Hendrix were named the ACC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday, the first time Syracuse swept the awards since 2017.
- Hendrix is the third player in program history to win a weekly conference award two straight weeks and first since Jenna Caira in 2011.
- In the last four conference wins, the Orange outscored its opponents 25-11.
- Syracuse is 2-8 overall in the ACC Tournament and have made it every season since head coach Shannon Doepking took over in 2019.
- The Orange have won an ACC Tournament contest two straight seasons, a 2-0 win against Louisville in 2022, the program's first ACC Tournament victory, and an 8-2 triumph versus Virginia in 2023.
- Senior Angel Jasso enters postseason play as the program leader in triples (seven) and multi-hit games (23) in a season. Jasso is tied with Alexis Switenko (2006) for the most hits by a senior in program history with 64.
- All five of Syracuse's pitchers have thrown at least 35.0 innings this season, the most since joining the ACC.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
- Boston College clinched postseason play after winning two-of-three in the regular season finale with Louisville. The Eagles finished the regular season 29-23 and 9-15 in ACC action.
- Catcher Hannah Slike paces the offense with a .353 average, eight home runs and 27 RBI.
- In the circle, Abby Dunning is 13-13 with a 2.61 ERA across 166 frames.
