SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse walked-off No. 14 Florida State in game one, 4-3, before losing, 3-2, in game two, Friday at Skytop Stadium.
Â
The Orange (27-22, 8-15 ACC) won its third game against the Seminoles (41-12, 19-4 ACC) in program history and first since 2005.
Â
Junior Angie Ramos came off the bench in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, singling up the middle with the bases loaded, winning the game for Syracuse.
Â
Senior Lindsey Hendrix earned her third victory in as many starts against a ranked opponent. The reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week surrendered two earned runs across the seven innings, giving Syracuse the most ranked victories in a campaign since 2013.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:Â
Syracuse and Florida State traded a pair of runs in the third to start the scoring. Isa Torres singled to right in the top half of the frame, bringing in two. The Orange quickly responded, scoring on a wild pitch before junior Laila Morales-Alves put down a perfectly placed bunt to score fellow third year Taylor Posner.
Â
The Seminoles took a brief 3-2 lead in the sixth when Kennedy Harp stole third and scored on a throwing error. Graduate student Rebecca Clyde was able to level the game once again, doubling home Morales-Alves on the 2-0 offering from Florida State starter Ashtyn Danley.
Â
Hendrix set the Seminoles down in order in the top of the seventh, striking out Kalei Harding for her fourth punch out of the game. Syracuse had the first two batters reach on fielding errors in the bottom of the frame before Knight was intentionally walked to load the bases. Two batters later, pinch hitter Angie Ramos laced a ball up the middle for the walk-off victory.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:Â
Knight carried the momentum into the second game of the twin bill, connecting on a two-out single to plate Lopez in the bottom of the first. Florida State's bats came alive the next half inning, scoring three runs on five hits, grabbing the lead for good.
Â
Clyde led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, starting Syracuse's comeback attempt. After sophomore Madelyn Lopez singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, ending Seminole starter Mimi Gooden's day in the circle. Allison Royalty took over for the visitors and allowed the Orange to cut the Florida State lead to one on Jasso's RBI groundout to bring in Clyde. Royalty did not allow anymore damage, helping the Seminoles hold onto the 3-2 victory.
Â
Knight stared the second game for Syracuse, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while fanning a pair of batters. The two-way sophomore also went 2-for-2 at the dish, drawing a pair of free passes.
