SYRACUSE, N.Y.--The Orange take on Tulane on Saturday, Sept. 21 (12:30 p.m., ACC RSN) in the second home game of the season. Last weekend Syracuse (1-2) defeated Wagner 54-0 to add a tally to the win column for the first time this season.
GAME OVERVIEW
• The Orange continues its three-game homestand on Sept. 21 when it hosts Tulane at the Carrier Dome (12:30 p.m./ACC RSN).
• Syracuse looks to make it two wins in a row after drubbing Wagner, 54-0, last week in its Dome opener, giving Scott Shafer his inaugural head coaching victory.
• The Orange can also reach a major milestone with a victory against Tulane Saturday. Syracuse has 699 all-time wins since it began sponsoring football in 1889 and the Orange can become the 15th FBS program to reach 700 wins with a triumph against the Green Wave.
• Tulane carries a 2-1 overall record into the contest, including a 1-0 mark in Conference USA play. The Green Wave opened league competition with a 24-15 road win against Louisiana Tech in its most recent outing.
PROMOTIONAL CHECKLIST
• Saturday is 'Patriotic Day' at the Dome and members of our military will be recognized at halftime. In addition, the Air Force will hold its Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP) swear-in ceremony for high school students prior to the game.
• SU coaches will wear patches on their left shoulders to show support for the 'Coach to Cure MD' program, a partnership between the AFCA and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) that helps raise awareness of the disorder. National 'Coach to Cure MD' weekend is Sept. 28, but Orange coaches will participate this Saturday due to the bye next week.
• Fans are encouraged to refer to all SU football games this season on Twitter using #OrangeNation. The Tulane-specific hashtag is #BeatTulane.
699 AND COUNTING
• Syracuse needs one more win to become the 15th FBS program to reach 700 victories. SU's all-time record is 699-500-49.
• The Orange and Virginia Tech are tied for the most wins by an ACC team, with Georgia Tech (696 wins) nipping at both their heels.
• Since its first year of football in 1889, Syracuse has produced 81 winning seasons.
• SU's first victory was a 14-0 triumph against the Syracuse Athletic Association on Sept. 26, 1890.
UNDER THE ROOF
• Syracuse and Tulane are two of five FBS schools that play their home games in domed stadiums. Since 1980, the Orange's football home has been the Carrier Dome. Tulane plays its home games in the Superdome. The others three programs with home domed fields are: Texas-San Antonio (Alamodome), Georgia State (Georgia Dome) and Idaho (Kibbie Dome).
THE TULANE SERIES
• Syracuse is 7-1 all-time against the Green Wave, including a 3-1 mark in games played in Syracuse, and a 2-1 record in games contested at the Carrier Dome.
• The Orange has won the last five meetings between the two teams, including a 37-34 victory in 2011 at the Superdome in the most recent pairing.
• In the Orange's 49-17 win in 1999, the defense led the way with five interceptions. Also of note that day, Nate Trout booted four field goals and five extra points to break John Biskup's career scoring record (296 points). Trout's school record of 334 career points still stands.
LAST TIME VS. TULANE
• Orange QB Ryan Nassib accounted for three touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing) and Ross Krautman hit three field goals, including one as time expired, to lift SU to a 37-34 victory at the Superdome on Oct. 8, 2011.
• WR Dorian Graham caught both of Nassib's TD passes and finished as the team's leading receiver with four receptions for 55 yards.
• Syracuse led 24-7 and 31-14 in the opening half before Tulane rallied tie it, 34-34, on a 58-yard TD catch by Xavier Rush with 2:53 to play.
• Nassib engineered the game-winning driving, guiding the Orange 66 yards in 12 plays to set up Krautman's winning kick.
A WIN AGAINST TULANE WILL …
• Be SU's 700th all-time victory, 15th-most among FBS schools.
• Be the Orange's sixth straight win against Tulane.
• Increase the team's record to 3-1 all-time against the Green Wave at the Carrier Dome.
• Improve the Orange's record to 15-4 against the current members of Conference USA.
• Extend the Orange's current home winning streak to seven. SU's last Carrier Dome loss was to Northwestern in the 2012 season opener.
