SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange volleyball squad (9-11, 1-4) was swept (22-25, 16-25, 18-25) by Pittsburgh (11-9, 1-4) on Sunday afternoon in the Women's Building.
The Orange started out strong, contending with the Panthers for most of the opening frame before an attacking error on Samantha Clarey gave Pitt the first set 25-22.Â
Despite hitting at a .324 clip in the second set, Syracuse could not regain offensive momentum, dropping the second and third sets 16-25 and 18-25, respectively.
Silvi Uattara led the Orange offense with 15 kills, while Samantha Hinz led at the net with four total blocks, including one solo block. Nicolette Serratore and Zoe Guzman shared the libero responsibility combining for 17 digs.
Jessica Wynn and Monica Wignot led the Panthers' offensive attack with 12 kills apiece. The Pitt victory was also helped by eight Orange attacking errors in the third set. Libero Margy Acton anchored the defense with 17 digs, while Jasmine Dittrich posted four blocks, including two solo blocks.
Syracuse will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Rutgers and Seton Hall for two more important BIG EAST road tests. The Orange will take on the Scarlet Knights at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 before squaring off against the Pirates on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Walsh Gymnasium.
