SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team (9-11, 1-4) is on the road this weekend, traveling to Rutgers and Seton Hall for two important BIG EAST road tests. The Orange will take on the Scarlet Knights (15-6, 1-5) on Friday at 6 p.m. before squaring off against the Pirates (15-4, 3-3) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Walsh Gymnasium.
WEEK IN REVIEW:
Syracuse went 1-1 last weekend, picking up an important BIG EAST victory against USF in a 3-2 thriller. Unable to sustain the momentum throughout the weekend, the Orange were swept by Pittsburgh. Silvi Uattara led the Orange offense combing for 40 kills across both matches, while Emily Betteridge recorded her third double-double of the season with 41 assists and 15 digs.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Rutgers will enter the weekend looking to rebound off of two straight set losses against No. 15 Louisville and Cincinnati last weekend. The Scarlet Knights will be led by offensive weapon, Stephanie Zielinski, who posted her 16th double-double of the season against the Cardinals. Libero Tracey Wright will anchor the defense averaging 4.35 digs per set.
Seton Hall will also enter the weekend looking to snap a losing streak, coming off of a pair of losses to Cincinnati and No. 15 Louisville. Despite the losses, sophomore Shelbey Manthorpe earned her third consecutive spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after recording two triple-doubles against the Bearcats and the Cardinals. Manthorpe leads the Pirate offense hitting at a .201 clip, averaging 2.94 kills per set, while Morgan DeVries leads at the net with 63 blocks.
UATTARA EARNS SECOND BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR:
Freshman outside hitter Silvi Uattara was named BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week for the second time this season after tying her career-high mark of 25 kills in the Orange's 3-2 victory against USF. Uattara leads the team with 228 kills, averaging 3.68 kills per set.
UP NEXT:
The Orange will return home next weekend to host two top conference opponents at home in the Women's Building. Syracuse will take on Louisville at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, before facing Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21st.
