Orange Hosts Louisville and Cincinnati

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball squad (9-13, 1-6) will host two conference opponents at home this weekend. The Orange will take on Louisville (18-3, 7-1) at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 before squaring off against Cincinnati (8-13, 6-2) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 in the Women's Building.
WEEK IN REVIEW:
The Orange volleyball squad enters this weekend looking to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair of four setters to the Rutgers and Seton Hall last weekend. Despite the losses, Silvi Uattara recorded back-to-back double-double performances, notching her third double-double of the season. Emily Betteridge posted her fourth double-double of the season dishing out 40 assists and 10 digs at Seton Hall.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
The 15th ranked Louisville Cardinals will enter the Women's Building looking to extend a two-game winning streak, after picking up wins against conference opponents St. John's and Connecticut, improving their record to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the BIG EAST. Three-time BIG EAST Player of the Week, Lola Arslanbekova will lead the Cardinals offense, totaling 391 kills in 2012 and averaging 4.95 kills per set, which leads the league and ranks 24th nationally. Gwen Rucker, who leads the league in blocking, will command the Cardinal defense, averaging 1.34 blocks per set.
Cincinnati will also enter the weekend looking to extend a win streak. The Bearcats are 6-2 in the BIG EAST after picking up consecutive wins against Rutgers, Seton Hall, Connecticut and St. John's. BIG EAST Player of the Week, Jordanne Scott is at the helm of the Bearcat offense, leading the team with 353 kills, averaging 4.41 kills per set. Me'Ashah Nicholson and Becca Refenes will lead the team at the net, as the defensive duo has racked up 66 blocks a piece in 2012, averages 0.80 blocks per set.
UP NEXT:
The Orange will head back out on the road for their final BIG EAST road trip of the regular season. SU will take on Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. before facing Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 28 at noon.
