South Orange, N.J. – Despite getting out to a 1-0 lead after winning the first set, the Syracuse Orange volleyball squad (9-13, 1-6) lost to the Seton Hall Pirates (16-5, 4-4) in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 16-25) on Sunday afternoon in the Walsh Gymnasium.
The Orange came out strong in the first set, matching the Pirates offensively in the opening frame. After closing in on the Pirates' two point lead, Syracuse called a timeout at 23-23. SU came out of the break swinging as a kill from Samantha Clarey and an attacking error on Morgan DeVries secured an Orange victory in the first set.
The second and third sets just barely slipped through the fingers of the Orange as SU went on a 5-0 unanswered run helped by two attacking errors and one ball handling error on the Pirates in the third set to even the score at 16-16. Unable to finish, SU dropped both sets, giving Seton Hall a two-game advantage heading into the fourth set.
