PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Noemie Lefebvre surpassed the 1,000 kill mark as she led the Syracuse University volleyball team (17-9, 6-4) past Pittsburgh (14-12, 4-7) on Sunday afternoon (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) at Fitzgerald Field House.
Lefebvre became the 11th player in SU volleyball history to reach the 1,000 kill plateau and is now just the sixth player to have 1,000 career kills and digs. The Terrabonne, Quebec native had 14 spikes on the day.
Lindsay McCabe got the Orange off to a fast start with four kills in the first set as Syracuse would take the frame 25-20.
Lefebvre took the second set over with nine kills on 19 attempts to help the Orange win the set 25-22.
Syracuse's defense controlled the third set as SU had five blocks and went on for a 25-20 victory.
“We needed to come out and have a good effort today,” interim head coach Kelly Morrisroe said. “I'm happy to see the team respond and it was crucial to get this win with the tough road that lies ahead.”
The Orange is on the road again next weekend with contests against conference leaders Cincinnati and Louisville.
