SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team (13-7, 3-2) looks to register a marquee win as the Orange hosts Marquette (15-5, 5-0) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., inside the Women's Building.
SU is coming off a spilt last weekend which saw the Orange defeat Villanova in four sets before losing to Georgetown in five. SU currently sits in seventh place in the BIG EAST standings with 10 matches remaining.
Middle blocker Sam Hinz made her way on to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor for the second time this season for averaging 2.08 blocks per set last week. Hinz continues to lead the conference in total blocks, blocks per set and block assists. The junior tallied a career-high 13 stuffs in the loss to Georgetown.
The Orange will have to contend with setter Chelsea Heier, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Heier totaled 69 assists and averaged 11.50 assists per set in sweeps over Georgetown and Villanova.
The Golden Eagles offense also features Ciara Jones, Ashley Beyer and Danielle Carlson. All three players have over 200 kills and average over 3.0 kills per set. Jones leads the team with 262 spikes, while Danielle Carlson hits a league-best .406 percent.
