Syracuse – Louisville Series
The Orange leads the Cardinals 5-4 in the all-time series. The teams have faced off against each other annually since 2005 with Louisville owning the record 3-2. In 1989, SU defeated Louisville in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Tokyo, Japan, 24-13, representing the only game played by Syracuse outside the United States.
The Fun Begins on the Quad on Game Day
The festivities Saturday morning begin at the Family Fun Zone on the quad at 9:00 a.m. Adjacent to the Dome, the Family Fun Zone will feature the Syracuse marching band, cheerleaders, dance team and Otto the Orange. There will be jumpies and face painting for children as well as food available for purchase.
National College Football Day
Saturday, November 6 is National College Football Day, which marks the 141st anniversary of the first collegiate game. The seventh annual event will commemorate the birth of college football while increasing awareness and raising money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The V Foundation was selected as the beneficiary of National College Football Day philanthropic efforts as cancer is the dominant disease in the United States, affecting men, women and children of all races. The V Foundation funds research nationawide, for all types of cancers.
National College Football Day, observed on the first Saturday of November, was created by the AT&T Cotton Bowl seven years ago as a way to pay tribute to a significant moment in our nation's history. On Nov. 6, 1869, Rutger defeated Princeton, 6-4. More importantly, those college athletes left a lasting legacy that would evolve into the great spectacle of football.

Orange Receives National Poll Votes
For the second week in a row, Syracuse received votes (22) in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll ranking 27th as well as votes (14) in the USA Today Coaches Poll, ranking 28th. The Orange returned to the national polls after upsetting #20/19 West Virginia on Oct. 23 and stayed afloat after its victory at Cincinnati Oct. 30. Before 2010, the last time SU was in the Top 25 was at the end of the 2001 season when it ranked 14th in both polls after a 26-3 win against Kansas State in the Insight.com Bowl.
2010 Overall Performance Strong in Comparison
For the first time since 2001, SU football is 6-2. The last time the Orange went 7-2 was also in the 2001 season. The six wins this year are the most for a SU team since 2004 when it finished 6-6. The three BIG EAST victories are the most since 2004 when Syracuse finished with a league record of 4-2. Additionally, the three BIG EAST road wins are the most road league wins for an Orange team since 2001 when it had three. Through eight games this year, Syracuse football is performing statistically at levels the program hasn't started at in years.
Defense Ranks Among the Nation's Best
In two seasons as the Orange defensive coordinator, Scott Shafer has made his mark on the team. The 2010 SU defense has shut out five opponents in the second half including Akron, Maine, USF, WVU and Cincinnati. Other noteworthy statistics are the Syracuse has held four of eight teams to less than 10 points this season, and the defense has held opponents to zero points in 16-of-32 quarters this season. This season, Orange defense ranks amongst the NCAA top 20 in total defense (13th), scoring defense (14th), first downs allowed (tied 15th), and pass defense (18th).
2010 Zunic Award Honoree
The 2010 Zunic Award winner is Orange football letterwinner Jim Jerome. The award recognizes friends of Syracuse football who exhibit the courage and spirit of Mike and Judy Zunic who have overcome some of life's tough players. The award was established in May 2001 to honor Mike '81 and Judy Zunic who died tragically on July 1989 when a United Airlines flight crashed in Sioux City, Iowa. They exhibited tremendous volunteerism and encompass the traits of courage and kindness.
Jerome is a native of Watertown, N.Y. who started for three years at defensive end for SU during head coach Ben Schwartzwalder's tenure. Following his senior year at Syracuse in 1976, Jerome signed a free-agent contract with the New England Patriots, participating in preseason camp for two seasons, and finished the 1977 season as a linebacker for the New York Jets.
'Salute a Soldier'
Syracuse Athletics in conjunction with the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) and the EBV Foundation, has launched a 'Salute a Soldier' campaign for the SU football game against Louisville. The 'Salute a Soldier' program is part of the Courage Day celebrations honoring our military and veteran organizations. Courage Day will honor four Syracuse EBV graduates who have shown outstanding strength through adversity. Head coach Doug Marrone had deemed the four graduates, Jesse Canella, Dalia Rivera, Henry Rivera and Terry Sims, honorary captains for the day.
As part of Courage Day, every ticket sold between Oct. 28 and Nov. 5 will be matched by the athletics department who will donate a ticket to soldiers of Fort Drum, 174th Fighter Wing, other local military units, and their families to attend the game.
Carter on Career Rushing List
Senior running back Delone Carter ranks eighth on Syracuse's career rushing yard list with 2,617 yards. In SU's win at South Florida, Carter passed 1961 Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis. Carter is nine yards shy of climbing past Dee Brown (1997-2000) for seventh on the career rushing yard record.
In addition to topping the career rushing yard list, Carter ranks fifth on the career carries record list, eighth in 100-yard rushing games with nine, and tied for ninth in 21 rushing touchdowns in Syracuse history. He has carried the ball 151 times without losing a fumble, a streak that dates back to the 2009 season-finale at Connecticut.
Bailey Gains on the Ground and Through the Air
Junior running back Antwon Bailey has proved to be an offensive threat in the backfield. He ranks seventh on Syracuse's career receptions by a running back with 47 as well as ninth on the career receiving yards by a running back with 405. In 2010, Bailey has been the second-leading rusher and fourth-leading receiver on the squad, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and 10.2 yards per reception.
